VKU welcomed and held a working session with the delegation from the Institute of Electronic Nano Systems (ENAS), Federal Republic of Germany: Opening up new opportunities for cooperation in training and research in the field of semiconductor microcircuit technology
On the morning of July 16, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang received and worked with the delegation from the Institute of Electronic Nano Systems (Fraunhofer ENAS), Federal Republic of Germany – one of the leading research institutes in Europe in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), nanotechnology and integrated microcircuits.
Overview of the meeting
Attending the meeting, on the ENAS side were Prof. Dr. Harald Kuhn – Director and Mr. Michael Petzsche – Project Manager. Representing VKU was Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector along with leaders from various departments, faculties and centers of the university. Representing the project’s coordinating institution, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhan – Rector of Nguyen Van Troi College – also took part in the meeting.
Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of VKU was delivering his remarks at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Tran The Son extended a warm welcome to the ENAS delegation and introduced the development journey of VKU – a public, application-oriented university and a pioneer in training digital human resources and semiconductor microchips specialists in the Central – Central Highlands region and the whole country. With a scale of nearly 7,000 students and a system of 19 high-quality training programs, VKU continues to expand international cooperation, promote technology transfer, and advance research and education aligned with global standards. In particular, the launch of the IC Design Engineering program in 2024 has attracted significant attention, with an entrance score of 27 points, among the highest in the whole country.
Prof. Dr. Harald Kuhn – Director of ENAS
On the ENAS side, Prof. Dr. Harald Kuhn – Director – expressed his appreciation and was impressed by VKU’s rapid development and strategic orientation in the field of high technology. ENAS is a member of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft network – the largest applied research organization in Europe, specializing in the research and development of ultra-small electronic systems (nano and micro), smart sensors, 3D integrated packaging, flexible electronics, applications in industry 4.0, biomedicine and autonomous vehicles. Prof. Kuhn especially appreciated VKU’s vision in developing human resources for microchip design and expressed his desire to establish a sustainable and long-term cooperative relationship between the two sides.
He also proposed potential areas of collaboration, emphasizing joint efforts in developing master’s programs in microelectronics and intelligent systems, organizing academic and research exchange programs for faculty and students, and expressed readiness to support VKU in accessing technologies, laboratories, and collaborative projects under Fraunhofer ENAS. Prof. Kuhn also expressed his hope that ENAS would accompany VKU in co-organizing international scientific conferences, enhancing research capacity, and developing internationally-standardized training programs, thereby contributing to the advancement of Vietnam’s microchip ecosystem. The two sides also agreed to continue discussions to define specific areas of cooperation in the coming time, including plans to organize an international seminar on Semiconductor Microchips at VKU in early 2026, with the participation of ENAS and both domestic and international partners from industry and academia.
The meeting opened up practical opportunities for cooperation between VKU and ENAS in the fields of training, research and development of microchip technology – one of the key areas, contributing to the implementation of the national strategy on the semiconductor industry and the development of high-quality human resources for the future.
Center for Learning Resource and Communication
