VKU Expands International Cooperation with the Bhutanese Ministry of Education and Skills Development in the Digital Technology Field
On the morning of May 13, 2026, the Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang, hosted and held a working session with a delegation from the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) of Bhutan, led by Mr. Tshewang Chophel Dorji – Secretary of MoESD, along with leadership representatives and specialists.

Overview of the working session
Presiding over the meeting on behalf of VKU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector, and leaders of the university’s functional units. The session took place in an open and cordial atmosphere, aimed at strengthening connections, exchanging experiences, and promoting cooperation opportunities in education, vocational training, and digital human resource development between the two parties.

Speaking at the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap extended a warm welcome to the MoESD Bhutan delegation and provided an overview of VKU as a member university of The University of Danang, established through the merger of key information technology training units. Accordingly, VKU is oriented toward developing a modern digital university model, focusing on spearheading fields such as digital technology, digital economy, artificial intelligence, semiconductor integrated circuits, financial technology, and cybersecurity.
Currently, VKU has a scale of nearly 8,000 students across 19 majors/specializations, maintaining stable admission quality with average annual benchmark scores ranging from 23-24 points. The university places special emphasis on building a modern learning environment, enhancing corporate partnerships, and promoting innovation and internationalization to meet the demand for high-quality human resources in the context of global digital transformation.

Representing MoESD Bhutan, Mr. Tshewang Chophel Dorji expressed his gratitude for the solemn reception by VKU and provided an overview of MoESD Bhutan as an agency under the Royal Government of Bhutan, responsible for planning educational policies and managing the general education system, higher education, vocational training, and national human resource skills development. He also shared Bhutan’s orientation toward modernizing education and vocational training, particularly in the context of digital transformation and the need for high-tech human resource development. Furthermore, he emphasized the potential for cooperation between the two sides, especially in the fields of information technology, digital technology, and the digital economy.
During the working session, both parties discussed various cooperation contents to seek suitable models and solutions for improving the quality of vocational training and skills development in Bhutan. The MoESD Bhutan delegation was particularly interested in VKU’s industry-linked training model, practical application orientation, the “smart university” model, digital learning systems, and modern laboratory infrastructure. Simultaneously, both sides discussed the possibility of cooperating with higher education institutions in Bhutan in the fields of digital technology and vocational training; implementing English-taught curricula, student exchanges, and assigning lecturers to support training, as well as promoting cooperation in financial technology (FinTech), digital payments, and online banking. Both parties agreed to continue discussions to promote specific cooperation opportunities in the future through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), potential scholarship programs, academic exchanges, and educational-cultural connections between Vietnam and Bhutan.
The working session concluded successfully, opening up many prospects for international cooperation between VKU and MoESD Bhutan in education, vocational training, and high-quality human resource development, contributing to the promotion of educational cooperation and cultural exchange between the two nations in the coming time.
