VKU promotes international cooperation with MacEwan University (Canada), expanding learning and research opportunities for students and faculty members

On the morning of July 8, 2026, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang, held a meeting with a delegation from MacEwan University (Canada) to discuss cooperation in training, scientific research, and international academic exchange.

Overview of the meeting

Attending the meeting from MacEwan University were Ms. Erin Wight – Director of MacEwan International, Dr. Mohammed Elmorsy – Associate Professor of Computer Science, and Dr. Theresa Chika-James – Associate Dean of the Triffo School of Business. Representing VKU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice-Rector, along with leaders of various departments and faculties.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU, expressed his pleasure in welcoming the delegation from MacEwan University (Canada) to visit and work with the university following a joint meeting with the University of Danang. Sharing his vision for development, the Rector stated that VKU currently educates nearly 8,000 students in the fields of technology and digital economics and aims to become a leading digital university in the region. In addition to the advantage of ODA funding from the Korean government for capacity-building projects, the university continues to expand its global cooperation network to create the best international learning environment for its students. Through this partnership, VKU hopes that both sides will soon implement academic exchange programs, international internships, faculty exchanges, and opportunities for VKU staff and lecturers to pursue in-depth research and PhD training in Canada.

Speaking on behalf of MacEwan University, Ms. Erin Wight – Director of MacEwan International expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome from VKU. She said, “MacEwan University values excellence in teaching and expanding its global network. We see similarities and immense potential in the development directions of both universities, particularly in the fields of digital economy and digital transformation. MacEwan is very willing to discuss transfer programs, research collaborations, the development of online courses, and the joint organization of international scientific conferences. Furthermore, we are very excited about the idea of co-organizing technology playgrounds, cybersecurity competitions, and AI challenges for students from both universities.”

In an open and cooperative atmosphere, the two sides exchanged views on various areas of cooperation aimed at promoting academic exchange through student and faculty exchange programs, scholarships, and short-term courses. At the same time, VKU and MacEwan University discussed strengthening collaboration in scientific research, innovation, and the development of internationally standardized training programs in areas of shared strength, including information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, information security, and economics and business administration. The two universities plan to gradually translate their cooperation into practical activities such as co-supervising research, jointly organizing technology events and large-scale scientific conferences – notably the CITA International Conference and DeFi – while promoting a university-business-government collaboration model to transform agreements into practical projects that effectively meet the global demand for high-quality human resources.

The meeting concluded successfully, marking an important first step in establishing a cooperative relationship between VKU and MacEwan University. It also demonstrates VKU’s continued efforts to expand its international partner network, enhance the quality of education and research, and create more opportunities for learning, research, and academic exchange in an international environment for students and faculty, gradually realizing its goal of becoming a digital university that meets international standards.
