Closing ceremony of the AUN-QA external assessment at VKU: Affirming training quality and driving international integration

On the morning of 20 August 2026, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang, formally held the Closing Session of the External Assessment of Training Programs according to the standards of the ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). The event marked an important milestone in VKU’s journey of assuring and enhancing training quality, while continuing to affirm its strong internationalization orientation in the process of integrating into regional and global higher education.

Overview of the Closing Session

Attending the Closing Session, on behalf of the AUN-QA Assessment Team were Associate Professor, PhD. Chavalit Wongse-ek – Vice Chair of the AUN-QA Council and Head of the Assessment Team, together with leading experts from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Representing VKU were Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the University; Vice Rectors Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho and Dr. Tran The Son; representatives of the leadership of Faculties, Offices, and Centers; and a large number of lecturers and students.

AUN-QA experts conducting the external assessment

Throughout three days of intensive, serious, and in-depth work from 18 to 20 August 2026, the AUN-QA Assessment Team conducted a comprehensive assessment of three training programs, including the Information Technology Engineering Programme, Computer Engineering Technology Engineering Programme, and Bachelor of Business Administration Programme. The assessment activities were conducted from multiple perspectives through a review of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR), in-depth interviews with university leaders, lecturers, staff, students, alumni, and employers, combined with on-site surveys of the University’s facilities, library, and specialized practice and laboratory rooms.

Associate Professor, PhD. Chavalit Wongse-ek – Vice Chair of the AUN-QA Council, delivering the preliminary report at the Closing Session

In its preliminary report at the Closing Session, the AUN-QA Assessment Team acknowledged and highly appreciated VKU’s breakthrough efforts and numerous outstanding strengths. The curricula of all three programs were scientifically designed, closely aligned with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) philosophy, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and benchmarked against regional standards. The learning pathways closely integrate theory with practical projects, three intensive internship semesters, and graduation projects, enabling students to develop solid practical competencies. In addition, the extensive network of enterprise partnerships provides outstanding employment opportunities, as reflected in the impressive rate of graduates securing employment within one year of graduation, which has consistently remained above 90% (with many cohorts achieving rates ranging from 92% to 96.67%). The young, dynamic, and dedicated teaching staff, together with remarkable advances in scientific research activities conducted by staff and students, including numerous international publications indexed in Scopus, were also among the strengths commended by the assessment team.

Alongside recognizing the achievements attained, and in the spirit of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), the AUN-QA Assessment Team provided a number of strategic recommendations. The Team suggested that the University continue to standardize Direct Assessment tools, apply standardized rubrics, and utilize digital data analytics systems to monitor students’ attainment of Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs/PLOs) across academic years. At the same time, VKU should proactively embrace pioneering technology trends such as AI Agents, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Semiconductor IC Design; strengthen in-depth international benchmarking and accreditation (such as AACSB standards for Business Administration programs); enhance learners’ English proficiency for specialized fields; and continue upgrading infrastructure and facilities to ensure equitable access.

Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector of VKU, delivering remarks

In his closing remarks, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector of the University, expressed his sincere and profound gratitude to the AUN-QA Assessment Team for its objective, professional, dedicated working spirit and valuable contributions to the University. He also expressed his deep appreciation to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), The University of Danang, the University leadership, and all staff, lecturers, students, and partner enterprises for their continued collaboration and support throughout the preparation and assessment process.

Emphasizing the significance of the assessment, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho affirmed that, for VKU, this assessment was not merely an opportunity to review what had been achieved, but, more importantly, an opportunity to gain multidimensional perspectives to identify strengths and determine areas requiring further improvement. The University has always maintained that quality assurance is not a destination, but a continuous journey. All feedback and recommendations from the assessment team will serve as invaluable data for VKU to continue optimizing its training programs, teaching methods, student support activities, and assessment and evaluation practices in the coming period.

Building on the success of the 2023 national program-level accreditation and the 2026 institutional quality accreditation, this AUN-QA assessment continues to provide a major impetus for VKU to make a strong transition from “structural compliance” to an “evidence-based quality culture.” Grounded in its core values of “Humanity – Dedication – Liberation,” VKU remains steadfast in its mission of placing learners at the center, continuously enhancing training quality, fostering innovation, and serving the community, while firmly advancing its position as a leading digital university reaching regional and international stature.
