VKU organizes the Workshop on Fintech Workforce Development and Training in the Digital World, the largest forum held for the first time in Da Nang
As part of the series of events titled “Fintech Development in the Digital World,” on the afternoon of September 27, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang, hosted the “Workshop on Fintech Workforce Development and Training in the Digital World.” This event marked a significant milestone as the largest forum on Fintech ever held in Da Nang.
Overview of the Workshop
Attending the Workshop, on behalf of the organizing unit, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chairman of the University Council; Vice Rector: Dr. Tran The Son, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho; along with Leaders of Departments, Faculties, Centers and lecturers and students in the field of Digital Economics of the university.
On the side of domestic and international delegates, there was Mr. Vo Minh – Director of the State Bank of Vietnam – Da Nang Branch; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat – Vice Director of the Department of Science and International Cooperation, the University of Da Nang; Mr. Tran Huyen Dinh – Chairman of the Fintech Application Committee, Vietnam Blockchain Association; Mr. Ly Dinh Quan – General Director of Song Han Startup Incubation Center; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tai – Chairman of Naiscorp Company; Mr. Chew Teck Shiong – CEO of Evvo Labs Company (Singapore); experts from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand); Latrobe University (Australia); Northampton University (UK), Microsoft Corporation.
From the sponsoring organizations, attendees included Mr. Sangil Kim, Director of CSR Strategy at Hanwha Life Korea, Mr. Junwhan Hwang, CEO of Hanwha Life Vietnam, and Ms. Jin Kim, Director of Global Programs at Childfund Korea.
Opening Remarks by Dr. Tran The Son, VKU Vice Rector
In his opening speech, Dr. Tran The Son, Vice Rector of VKU, sincerely thanked and warmly welcomed all participants, particularly the leading Fintech experts from both Vietnam and abroad. He emphasized that the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for the government, businesses, and the university to exchange ideas and discuss potential development directions for Fintech services in Vietnam, especially in Da Nang. A focal point of the discussions was workforce development for the Fintech sector, a rapidly growing and promising market both in Vietnam and globally.
VKU, with the mission of a leading public university, plays an important role in providing high-quality human resources for the fields of information technology, communications and digital economy. VKU has pioneered and actively trained and developed high-quality human resources in strategic industries for the development of Da Nang City, the country and world trends, and has been very successful in the fields/specializations of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, logistics and this year, Digital Financial Technology (Fintech). VKU’s training and human resource development direction focuses on digital technology for the financial industry (TechFin-Technology Finance), enhancing English and Korean languages and the ability to adapt to change and lifelong self-learning capacity (liberal) for learners.
The workshop listened to in-depth sharing and presentations from 3 parties: the State, Enterprises, and Universities, focusing on key issues in Vietnam’s orientation policy on building a controlled testing mechanism for financial technology activities in the banking sector shared by Mr. Vo Minh – Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Da Nang Branch; models of training human resources, and challenges, lessons learned in training Fintech human resources in developed countries, building a financial technology ecosystem and applying Fintech in real asset activities presented by experts and researchers from the UK, Australia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Additionally, Mr. Kyoung Bae Park, CEO and Director of Hanwha Financial Technology, shared insights on the development of Fintech applications at Hanwha Life Korea and the company’s future plans for insurtech in Vietnam.
Panel Discussion on Fintech Development Strategy
Following the presentations, a panel discussion on the Fintech Development Strategy was held, featuring experts, investors, technology companies, Fintech unicorns, and representatives from both domestic and international universities. The discussion focused on the challenges, opportunities, and practical implementation of Fintech in Vietnam and Da Nang, particularly in terms of workforce development.
The Fintech Workforce Development and Training Workshop in the Digital World has successfully connected three parties: the State, Enterprises, and Universities, opening up new directions in Fintech human resource training in Vietnam and Da Nang. The conference successfully connected the government, businesses, and academia, opening new pathways for Fintech workforce development in Vietnam and Da Nang. The insightful presentations and discussions provided valuable perspectives, contributing to enhancing the quality of education and positioning Da Nang as a regional Fintech hub. This event marked a significant step forward in integrating and advancing the digital economy.
