Students of VKU’s Digital Tourism and Travel Service Management Minor Experience Practical Learning in the Hue Imperial City
Practical learning has always been an essential component of the training program at Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, aiming to help students connect academic knowledge with real-world professional environments. On May 13–14, 2026, the Faculty of Digital Economy and E-Commerce organized a field trip to Hue for second-year students majoring in Digital Tourism and Travel Service Management.

The journey was not only a sightseeing and experiential activity but also a “classroom without walls,” enabling students to directly observe, analyze, and comprehensively approach the tourism service supply chain, from transportation, accommodation, and cuisine to cultural activities, arts, and destination management. Through these practical experiences, knowledge related to tourism marketing, customer experience management, tourism culture, and tour organization was brought to life vividly.

A journey exploring cultural and historical landmarks
During the heritage exploration journey in the Ancient Capital, the delegation visited many iconic cultural and historical sites such as Hue Imperial Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda, Khai Dinh Tomb, Thien An Monastery, Tu Hieu Pagoda, and also participated in activities at the Duong No Village Festival.
At the Hue Imperial Citadel, students directly observed the guard-changing ceremony at Ngo Mon Gate, enjoyed Hue folk singing performances, and learned about Hue Royal Court Music within the heritage space itself. These practical experiences helped students gain a deeper understanding of how cultural tourism products are developed, how traditional values are preserved in connection with experiential tourism, and how visitor emotions can be enhanced.
In addition, the visit to Thien Mu Pagoda provided students with practical insights into destination branding, spiritual tourism management, and the exploitation of cultural and historical values for sustainable tourism development. Meanwhile, the East–West architectural blend at Khai Dinh Tomb and the humanistic values at Tu Hieu Pagoda further helped students appreciate the diversity and cultural depth of the tourism industry.
One of the most remarkable experiences of the trip was the activity at the “Hue Village” cultural space, where students directly observed and participated in the processes of making conical hats, incense, folk paintings, and learning about traditional handicraft products. Through this, students clearly recognized the transformation from conventional goods into high-value cultural experience services — an important trend in modern tourism development.
In particular, in line with VKU’s orientation toward digital technology-integrated education, students proactively explored technology applications in tourism such as audio guides, digitized heritage maps, digital communications, and customer experience management at destinations. This was an opportunity for students to connect tourism management expertise with digital transformation thinking in the service industry.
The field trip to the Ancient Capital of Hue not only contributed to strengthening students’ professional knowledge and vocational skills but also enhanced their cultural understanding and sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting national heritage values. At the same time, it serves as an important foundation for students to confidently pursue advanced specialized courses and become high-quality human resources in the field of Digital Tourism and Travel Service Management in the future.
