On the afternoon of September 22nd, 2023, the Final Round of the 2023 English Talent Competition (called ETC) took place at the University of Danang, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology. This is an academic playground held annually since 2017. The 6th ETC was held in 2023. It was carefully prepared, attracted many participants, and had useful exam content, which aimed at helping students improve foreign language skills and cultivating their soft skills. It also aimed at equipping students with more knowledge about the 4.0 Revolution, the digital transformation, which is taking place strongly around the world, as well as current integration skills.

Attending the final round of the ETC 2023, VKU is honored to welcome experts from domestic and foreign businesses, including Mr. Ho Duc Linh – Manager of Global Program (FTP Software – Gold sponsor); Ms. Anh Duong – Representative from Enclave (Silver sponsor); Mr. Jane Samuelsson – Swedish expert; Mr. David Kuehl – Representative from Codeengine Studio; Mr. Michael Roberts – Expert at Pegasus International College; Ms. Ho Thi Tuyet Suong – Representative from Enouvo. On behalf of VKU, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector; leaders of departments, faculties, centers; coaches of participating teams; lecturers; and a large number of school students who are present at the hall and following livestream on the VKU fanpage.

Speaking at the opening of the final round of the ETC 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr.  Huynh Cong Phap – Rector emphasized: “VKU is a public university with the orientation of becoming a world-class educational institution and the goal of training high-quality human resources for the global labor market. To achieve that vision and goal, VKU has been implementing many programs to promote the internationalization process such as getting many training programs taught in English, Japanese, and Korean; conducting international internship and project exchanges. And ETC is one of the important activities contributing to the success of VKU’s development strategy.”

The ETC 2023 took place from February 2023 to September 2023, going through four rounds with more than 1,500 contestants from 450 participating teams. The organizing committee selected six most excellent teams to participate in the final round of ETC 2023.

The greeting section, which was impressively and creatively performed with the very unique features of each team, marked the commencement of the final round. At the presentation section, the teams demonstrated their English ability by fluently expressing themselves and presenting the optional topics related to the 4.0 revolution and social issues such as using GPT Chat application in learning, Cognipath – Future Education, Smart Learning Board, CRM System, and AI Solution for Traffic, or topics related to the fields of Information Technology (IT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Economy. In Particular, the candidates performed well in the two-way discussion section in which they had to address the questions raised by the judge board members related to the presentation content.

After two parts of the competition, Rider team and The Future Life team had the right to continue to the Debate section with the topic of AI Virtual Instructors. In this section, members of the two teams demonstrated their eloquence in the form of one side supporting and the other opposing. Each side was expected to demonstrate their understanding and ability to defend their point of view and convince the judge board using English.

After the thrilling sections, the judge board, made up of experts from the domestic and foreign IT business community, commented and highly appreciated the communication skills and knowledge of the competing teams, as well as their presentation and debate skills. In the end, the judge board decided to award the First prize to The Future Life team, the Second prize to the Rider team, and the remaining four teams including Innovation Skyline, ABG, The Glory, and It’s Striving shared the Third prize. In addition, the organizing Committee also awarded five Consolation prizes and the most popular vote prize on the VKU fanpage to the remaining good teams.

The success of ETC 2023, with the highlight being the English proficiency of VKU students, has demonstrated and respectfully acknowledged the tireless efforts of the university’s leaders and lecturers in general, and the strong determination and tremendous persistence in improving their foreign language ability of VKU students in particular. All of these have affirmed VKU students’ superiority of expertise and skills, especially the English skill, contributing to affirming the increasingly improved quality of VKU’s training program and international integration.
