On the afternoon of December 8, 2023, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang held a Meeting for officials for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Overview of the meeting

The meeting has an important meaning, aiming to evaluate and summarize the implementation of the Resolution of meeting for the 2022-2023 academic year; seriously review and find out the causes of limitations and shortcomings; As a result, set appropriate operating directions for the new academic year. The meeting is also an opportunity for each employee to perform their democratic right to propose opinions, express wishes to the university’s leaders, directly raise issues for discussion and to look for a unity in the  development of the university’s education career.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of the University of Danang (UD), there were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan – Deputy Director of the University of Danang (UD), Dr. Phan Kim Tuan – Member of the Standing Committee of UD Trade Union, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat – Secretary of UD Union and representatives for leaders of functional departments under UD. On the VKU side, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Party Committee Secretary, University Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council, MSc. Tran Dinh Son – Chairman of the university’s Trade Union, along with representatives of leaders from departments and 160 delegates elected from staff meetings.

On behalf of the meeting Presidium, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Party Committee Secretary, Rector of the University presented the draft report summarizing the work of the 2022-2023 academic year and the direction for the 2023-2024 academic year. For VKU, the 2022-2023 academic year faced many difficulties, especially in a new position with  limited management experience. Moreover, the following factors such as: the facilities that have been in use for more than 20 years have degraded, the Competition in education is increasing, staff income policies do not meet actual needs, and affect many aspects of the university’s general operations. However, with the significant leadership of UD, Party Committee, University’s Council and University’s Board of Directors, the efforts and solidarity of all staff of the university, the University has organized and successfully completed many proposed tasks and plans with outstanding results in 14 working groups such as enrollment achievement of 1,500 targets with top benchmark scores in the country in 14 majors, 3 new majors in Communication Technology, Information Security, Marketing and Semiconductor IC Design; Master’s training programs and bilingual global programs in English-Vietnamese, Korean-Vietnamese, Japanese-Vietnamese; quality accreditation recognition for 3 training programs in the fields of Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Business Administration; international scientific meetings (CITA), connection with Vietnamese scientists abroad, actively participation and contribution to many activities for Associations (FISU, Information technology); cooperation with many domestic and foreign business partners, implementation of a 7.7 million USD ODA project of the Korean Government and a project of the British Council; activities between businesses and universities in training coordination, improvement for foreign language capacity and skills for students; Students’ academic results reaching the Good level or higher, accounting for a high rate; student management strength, two-way information exchanging between the university and students’ families; the apparatus of leadership and management staff strength, quality lecturers with high professional qualifications recruitment; maintenance of inspection to keep order and discipline in training activities; Widely spread communication and academic promotion in the community; renovation of the green – clean – beautiful environmental landscape, digital transformation in all management and operating activities of the university,… and a number of other tasks.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, with new opportunities and challenges, VKU aims to carry out many outstanding tasks and key targets such as diversifying forms of admission consulting to maintain stable admission rates for 2024, developing strategic training programs such as semiconductor IC, digital communications…, building a research-oriented Master’s training program, and a 2+2 international transfer training program , 3+1 with leading universities in Korea and developed countries; Conducting self-assessment of higher education institutions to prepare for accreditation of 2 training programs according to AUN-QA standards; continuing to strengthen cooperation with businesses, building international training programs; Building a Community Fund with contributions from businesses, organizations, individuals… to form a source of funding for scholarships and awards for students; recruiting and supplementing a team of lecturers and teaching assistants; increasing income for employees by 7-10% compared to 2022-2023; Planning and embellishing the campus, landscape, trees, streets in front of the dormitory and the area behind the A area lecture hall to become a “Night Street” including amusement areas, walking paths, green parks…, Focusing on repairing and renovating buildings, lecture halls, and dormitories. In particular, implementing on schedule the project to improve the university’s education – training, administration and research capacity for the period of 2022-2027 from ODA funding from the Korean Government. With that spirit, the Rector calls on all university staff to continue to further promote the spirit of solidarity, positivity, and initiative in work, successfully complete the tasks of the 2023-2024 academic year and maintain stability and development of the University.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan – Deputy Director of UD recognized, praised and appreciated VKU’s efforts in the past academic year. Although there are still many difficulties and challenges and the fact that VKU has been a  newly established member for more than 3 years. However, VKU has obtained many outstanding achievements and results in the 2022-2023 academic year, it has focused on recruiting students in 2023 with excellent results. VKU’s academic reputation is widely spread; Scientific research is maintained with a series of national and international conferences and seminars as well as many publications in prestigious journals; The Korean Government’s ODA project has achieved important progress, contributing to improving the university’s capacity in the coming time; In particular, most importantly, VKU has built and maintained great unity and consensus among staff, thereby contributing to building the reputation of the University. At the same time, the Deputy Director of UD also  analyzed and commented on the quality of training and orientation for the University in the future.

There were also reports summarizing the activities of the University’s Council and the People’s Inspection Board for the 2022-2023 academic year; Report on the situation organizing the staff meetings from unit level and presenting a summary of comments on the Draft report summarizing the work of the 2022-2023 academic year and directions for the 2023-2024 academic year; results of implementing the Resolution of the Staff Meeting for the 2022-2023 academic year; report on the financial situation in 2023. Based on the presented reports, the meeting exchanged, discussed and commented on orientations and solutions for training development, on the system of facilities and political activities of the university,… Leaders from UD and the university have recognized, absorbed and explained the opinions. The meeting approved the Resolution for the 2023-2024 academic year with 42 targets in 10 working groups.

Representatives from professional leaders and the University Union launched an emulation movement and signed an emulation agreement for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The meeting announced decisions, praised and awarded emulation flags and titles to groups and individuals who have got achievements in the 2022-2023 academic year, including: 01 emulation flag and 07 Outstanding Team awarded by the Ministry of Education and Training, 20 individuals were awarded the Certificates of Merit from the Director of the University of Danang, 21 individuals were awarded the title of unit level emulation staff and 20 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Rectors.

The meeting for officials of the 2023-2024 academic year demonstrated the spirit of solidarity, overcoming difficulties and challenges, for all employees of Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology. With the tasks and targets of the 2023-2024 academic year, all university staff uphold a sense of responsibility, promote the spirit of innovation, creativity, connection, and sharing to successfully implement the development strategy together. The university is in a new phase and striving to become a happy university in the future.
