VKU welcomed and worked with IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS)
On the afternoon of October 11, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang welcomed and worked with the delegation of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) to discuss cooperation in training and research.
Overview of the meeting
Attending the meeting, on the side of IEEE CASS there were Prof. Myung Hoon Sunwoo – President (Professor of Electronic Engineering, Ajou University – Korea) and Prof. Hanho Lee – Vice President in charge of Technical Activities (Dean of Semiconductor Engineering Faculty, Inha University – Korea). On the side of VKU, there was Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector and Representatives of Departments, Faculties, and Centers of the university.
Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector of the university spoke at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector of VKU was pleased to welcome the delegation of IEEE CASS to visit, work and share with students of Information Technology and Computer Engineering Technology. VKU was established in 2020, with an annual enrollment quota of 1,500 students, an average entrance score of 24 points for 16 majors/specializations in the fields of information technology, communications and digital economy. At present, VKU has nearly 7,000 students and aims to reach 8,000 – 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students by 2025. The current teaching staff has over 250 people, including nearly 70 PhDs and associate professors, accounting for nearly 41%. In addition, VKU has focused on connecting and building a network of over 200 strategic partners including domestic and international organizations and enterprises participating in the training process, job recruitment and sponsorship, conducting training cooperation programs of the bilingual Global Courses in English-Vietnamese, Japanese-Vietnamese, Korean-Vietnamese etc., carrying out many activities, playgrounds and international academic-cultural exchange programs, executing practical projects, internships, business cooperation and enhancing foreign language teaching, especially 100% of students’ graduation theses written/presented in English. With the mission of a leading public university and a key supplier of high-tech human resources for the country and Da Nang city, VKU has pioneered in announcing the enrollment and training of IC Design Engineers, with an expected enrollment of about 500 new students from 2024 to 2027, transferring 180 students from closely-related majors to IC Design. VKU has coordinated with DSAC Center (Da Nang) and Institute of Information Technology (VNU Hanoi) to organize a training program for 25 source lecturers on IC Design, and an Upskill training course for 14 students. In particular, the 2024 enrollment season with an admission quota of 60 students for IC Design Engineering attracted great attention from candidates and parents with a total of more than 1,500 applications and established the national top-ranked admission score (based on high school transcripts and National High School Exam transcripts) of 27 points for IC Design Engineering.
Prof. Myung Hoon Sunwoo shared at the meeting.
As a Representative of IEEE CASS, Prof. Myung Hoon Sunwoo thanked VKU for the welcome and said that IEEE CASS was established in 1949, is a leading organization promoting the advancement of theory, analysis, design, tools and implementation of circuits and systems. This involves theoretical foundations, applications and their architectures, as well as the execution of algorithms for signals and information processing. IEEE CASS helps engineers, researchers, scientists and others involved in circuit and system applications access the industry’s most essential technical information, networking opportunities, career development tools and many other exclusive benefits. Local members with similar technical interests participate in professional exchanges through the Society’s 10 regional branches in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Asia and Australia (of which Vietnam currently has only one branch – the Institute of Information Technology, VNU, Hanoi, chaired by Prof. PhD. Tran Xuan Tu – President). At the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation orientations on expanding training and research exchange partners through becoming members of IEEE CASS at VKU (Central region). Membership in IEEE CASS will facilitate networking with relevant experts, scholars and students, hosting conferences and events, and receiving support from resources in training and research activities. In addition, IEEE CASS proposed that VKU consider hosting the IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems – APCCAS) in 2027 in Da Nang.
Overview of the seminar on research directions in AI, Electronic Computer Engineering and Semiconductor
During the working session, IEEE CASS had a meeting with more than 250 students of Information Technology, and Computer Engineering Technology at VKU, and shared about the research direction of AI, Electronic Computer Engineering and Semiconductor Integrated Circuits to help them better understand their career prospects and promote their passion for high-tech research. The meeting not only aroused interest in rapidly developing fields but also served as a stepping stone for VKU students to be ready to engage in research and innovation projects in the future.
