VKU Organizes Seminar on Semiconductor Fabrication, Updating Technology Trends and Developing Semiconductor Workforce

On the morning of July 24, 2026, Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang, organized a seminar on “Semiconductor Fabrication,” featuring a presentation by Prof.Dr. Bonghwan Kim from Daegu Catholic University (DCU), Korea. The seminar was part of VKU’s activities to strengthen international cooperation, promote academic exchange, and update participants on new trends in semiconductor technology, one of the strategic technology fields being prioritized for development by Vietnam and many other countries.

Overview of the seminar

Attending the seminar, Dev Plus Company was represented by Mr. Bui Quoc Vinh, Co-Founder. Representing VKU were Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, Vice Rector; representatives of the leadership of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Electronics and relevant units; together with a large number of lecturers, researchers, and students interested in semiconductor technology and integrated circuits.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho expressed his appreciation to Prof.Dr. Bonghwan Kim for taking the time to share valuable knowledge and practical experience in semiconductor fabrication. He emphasized that VKU is focusing on developing training and research programs in semiconductor integrated circuits with a strong orientation toward university–industry collaboration and international integration. The University expects the seminar to provide lecturers, researchers, and students with updated perspectives on technology, training models, and industry development trends, thereby opening up further opportunities for cooperation between VKU and Korean partners in the coming period.

Presentation by Prof.Dr. Bonghwan Kim

In his presentation, Prof.Dr. Bonghwan Kim provided an overview of Daegu Catholic University (DCU) and its training model, which closely connects the university with enterprises through an industry collaboration ecosystem. He also shared Korea’s experience in developing semiconductor human resources, particularly through the Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning (IC-PBL) model.

Along with an overview of the global semiconductor industry and Korea’s role in the international supply chain, the seminar focused on modern semiconductor fabrication processes, cleanroom systems, research and production equipment, as well as technologies and design tools currently used in training and research. These discussions provided participants with a comprehensive view of the semiconductor value chain, from design and fabrication to packaging and testing.

In particular, the speaker shared several emerging research trends, including nanotechnology, functional materials, advanced packaging, and applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Based on Korea’s development experience, Prof. Kim noted that developing countries such as Vietnam could focus on high-potential areas such as application-specific integrated circuit design, semiconductor packaging and testing. He also emphasized that high-quality human resources are a key factor determining the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry in the future.

The seminar took place in an engaging atmosphere, with many questions from lecturers and students about career paths, training models, research opportunities, and trends in the semiconductor industry. The speaker’s practical insights not only helped participants update their knowledge but also contributed to shaping their approaches to learning, research, and career development in semiconductor technology.

Through the seminar, VKU continues to affirm its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and connecting with leading universities, research institutes, and enterprises to improve the quality of education and scientific research and develop high-quality human resources in strategic technology fields, meeting the development needs of the digital economy and the semiconductor industry in the years ahead.
