VKU: Opening Ceremony of the 2024-2025 Academic Year and Graduation Ceremony for 2024 Graduates

On the morning of September 27, 2024, amidst the excitement of the new academic year, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), a member of the University of Danang, solemnly held the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year and the graduation ceremony for 2024 graduates. This event marked the beginning of a new academic year, continuing the journey of development and affirming the university’s reputation as a leading institution in the country with aspirations for international recognition.

Overview of the Ceremony

Attending the ceremony were distinguished guests from various sectors. Among the local leaders were Mr. Ngo Xuan Thang, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Da Nang, and Dr. Le Duc Vien, Director of the Department of Science and Technology.

International guests were Ms. Mizonova Maria Georgievna, Consul General of Russia in Da Nang; Mr. Shimonishi Kiyoshi, Deputy Consul General of Japan in Vietnam; Mr. Sangil Kim, Corporate Social Responsibility Director of Hanwha Life Korea; Mr. Junwhan Hwang, CEO of Hanwha Life Vietnam; Ms. Jin Kim, Global Program Director of Childfund Korea; Dr. Yuenyong Nilsiam from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand); and experts from Sweden and the United States.

Representatives from the University of Danang were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan, Deputy Director of the University of Danang, along with leaders from various faculties and organizations. Additionally, leaders from member universities such as the University of Science and Technology, University of Economics, University of Education, and University of Foreign Language Studies, School of Medicine and Pharmacy were present.

Representatives from sponsoring businesses were Visang Company (Korea), Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank, FPT Software Central Region, NiX Education JSC, and others.

Representatives from the administration of high schools in the Central and Central Highlands regions, as well as the parents of the new students and graduates, were present.

From Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of VKU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the University Council; and Vice Presidents: Dr. Tran The Son and Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, along with leaders from various departments, centers, international experts, and faculty members. Notably, VKU warmly welcomed nearly 1,700 new students and graduates who participated in the event.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, VKU Rector, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the local leaders, international consulates, domestic and foreign enterprises, and all attendees. He extended his congratulations to 1,521 new students from 2024 enrollment and 153 graduates, while also acknowledging the support of their parents.

In 2024, VKU achieved another successful enrollment season, ranking among the top universities in Vietnam with high admission scores, particularly in the Central Highlands region. The admission scores increased across all 16 programs offered by the university, with the average admission score for 2024 reaching 24 points, up 6 points from 2020 (the first year of enrollment, with an average score of approximately 18). Notably, nearly 30% of the admitted students were directly recruited, including 466/1521 students, bringing the total student population to nearly 7,000. The top freshman this year, Le Thanh Tan, a former student from Nong Son High School in Quang Nam, achieved a scholarship score of 29.33 points and received a scholarship worth 45 million VND from the University of Danang and corporate sponsors.

VKU prides itself on being a leading university for education and research in information technology, communications, and digital economy, with aspirations for international recognition. VKU currently boasts a high-quality faculty and state-of-the-art facilities. The university is implementing a ODA project worth 7.7 million USD funded by the Korean government, receiving support from major enterprises like Hanwha Life, CFK, and Nam Long Group, as well as assistance from the University of Danang and the Vietnamese government.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, VKU leads in enrolling and training in strategic fields such as semiconductor design, artificial intelligence, financial technology, and logistics, all crucial for Da Nang’s development by 2030 and 2045, including the development of a semiconductor center, an artificial intelligence center, and an international financial center of regional significance

VKU achieved remarkable accomplishments last year, successfully enrolling a semiconductor design program with an admission score of 27 ranked among the top in the country, establishing the Fintech Hub, offering international-standard master’s programs in information technology, and organizing numerous international student exchange programs with over 70 students receiving internship sponsorships in Thailand, South Korea, and Japan; initiating and organizing various international activities such as the Asian Consortium for Innovation and (ACIR), The 1st ACIR+ Workshop of Research and Innovation for Students (AWRIS 2024), the International Conference on Information Technology Applications (CITA 2024), and the Informatics Olympiad in the Central – Central Highlands, as well as numerous national cybersecurity competitions.

In terms of academic performance and graduate outcomes, last year VKU had many students achieving high scores in national and international competitions. The percentage of students graduating with honors and distinction was nearly 23%, while those graduating with good standing accounted for almost 48%. Over 95% of graduates secured jobs in their field within six months of graduation, with competitive salaries and positions at many prestigious domestic and international companies. Additionally, several second- and third-year students have already been recruited by major enterprises for paid internships.

At the event, VKU also awarded diplomas to 153 new engineers and graduates, of which nearly 20% graduated with honors (Excellent and Good). The employment rate for graduates is very high, with average salaries ranging from 8 to 15 million VND per month or more. Most graduates are employed at leading companies both domestically and internationally, with many receiving jobs offers from major enterprises while still in their second or third year of study. Representing the new graduates, Le Phuoc Thinh, the valedictorian of the Business Administration program, expressed deep gratitude to VKU lecturers, who have been like second parents, always caring and supporting students throughout their years away from home. With a quality and reputable training environment, and a team of young, responsible, and dedicated lecturers, we have accumulated much knowledge through academic activities and internships from the early years, enabling us to readily access jobs in the industry upon graduation.

Continuing the tradition, during the Opening Ceremony and diploma awarding for the 2024-2025 academic year, VKU honored the new students who are valedictorians, runners-up, and new graduates with outstanding achievements in their studies and training, supported by scholarships from the University of Danang, VKU, and sponsorship from domestic and international businesses.

Le Thanh Tan achieved the title of valedictorian with an entry scholarship score of 29.33 in Information Technology (Engineer), receiving a scholarship of 45 million VND.

The Runner – up 1 award – The 2024 Admissions:

Phan Thanh Khang received the title of Runner-up 1 received an entry scholarship with a score of 28.97 in Information Technology (Engineer), – A scholarship of 30 million VND.

The Runner – up 2 award – The 2024 Admissions:

Freshman Quang Hoang Phu (former student of Van Tuong High School, Quang Ngai) received an entry scholarship with score of 28.43 in Semiconductor Design (Engineer) – A scholarship of 22.5 million VND

Additionally, 10 top new students with high entry scores for the 2024 admissions received scholarships of 15 million VND each student.

Regarding the New Graduates of 2024:

Le Phuoc Thinh, new valedictorian of Business Administration, achieved a valedictorian award

  • Le Phuoc Thinh, the valedictorian of the Business Administration program, graduated with a GPA of 3.68/4.0, with Excellent ranking, receiving a certificate of merit from the Director of the University of Danang and a reward of 2 million VND.
  • Nguyen Dac Nam, also with an Excellent ranking and a GPA of 3.61/4.0, received a certificate of merit from the Rector and a reward of 1 million VND.
  • Nguyen Thi Tuyet Tram, with a GPA of 3.60/4.0, received a certificate of merit from the Rector and a reward of 1 million VND.
  • Mai Thi Loc, with a GPA of 3.64/4.0, also received a certificate of merit from the Rector and a reward of 1 million VND.
  • Additionally, 12 exemplary graduates received certificates of merit from the Rector with a reward of 500,000 VND each.

8 new students received scholarships from Hanwha Life Korea and ChildFund Korea

Scholarships from Hanwha Life Korea and ChildFund Korea: Eight new students were awarded scholarships from Hanwha Life Korea and ChildFund Korea for their outstanding achievements at Informatics Olympiad in the Central – Central Highlands organized annually by VKU and for excellent students in the field of financial technology.

With a spirit of humanity and dedication, VKU understands the difficulties faced by new students from challenging backgrounds and their perseverance in their studies. VKU awarded 25 scholarships worth 2 million VND to each student demonstrating resilience and dedication to their academic pursuits.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, many VKU students achieved outstanding academic and extracurricular results, with the Rector’s awarding certificates of merit to 22 excellent students with rewards of 2 million VND each and 5 exemplary student union members with rewards of 1 million VND each.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector, encouraged all new graduates and students to internalize the university’s noble educational philosophy, continuously strived to become well-rounded, virtuous, and resilient individuals with dynamic, innovative, and creative mindsets, always ready to serve and contribute to societal development.

He also called on the entire faculty and staff to continue dedicating themselves with the highest sense of responsibility, unity, and determination to successfully implement the “University Development Strategy, building VKU into an ideal university in Central Vietnam”, and to excel in the three major orientations: promoting digital transformation, applying information technology and artificial intelligence; enhancing cooperation and internationalization of activities; and building a happy campus that reflects VKU’s cultural values, embodying the educational philosophy of “Humanity – Dedication – Liberation” with core values of ” Quality – Prestige – Professionalism,” alongside 12 breakthrough tasks and 59 key missions for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Opening Ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year and the Graduate Ceremony for 2024 graduates were a resounding success, marking a new step in the development of the university. VKU sincerely congratulates the new students, graduates, wishing them a steady journey in their studies and careers, achieving great success, and becoming exemplary citizens contributing to the development of society and the country.
