VKU Bustling with the VKU Freshmen Welcome and Honoring Day 2025: The Beginning of a Journey of Knowledge and Aspiration
On the evening of October 17, 2025, the Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, held the VKU Freshmen Welcome and Honoring Event 2025. The event aimed to commend outstanding new students for their remarkable achievements and warmly welcome the newest generation of VKU students, marking the start of their exciting journey of knowledge and aspiration at the university.
Overview of the event
Attending the event, on the side of international guests, were the Hanwha Life Korea delegation, including Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Deputy General Director, Mr. Hwang Jun Hwang – General Director of Hanwha Life Vietnam, and Mr. Yoo Jae Gon – Standing Deputy General Director of Hanwha Life Vietnam; along with representatives of VKU’s partner organizations and enterprises. From VKU, attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chairman of the University Council, and Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector, together with the University’s faculty members, staff, and a large number of students, notably 1,500 freshmen of the 2025 intake and their parents.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector of VKU, congratulated and warmly welcomed 1,500 new students who had successfully passed the highly competitive entrance examination to officially become members of the VKU family – a place of knowledge, creativity, and aspiration for excellence. He shared that in the 2025 admission season, VKU enrolled 1,500 students across 19 majors and minors in the fields of digital technology and digital economy. With nearly 20,000 applications submitted through various admission methods, VKU once again affirmed its position as a highly competitive and prestigious institution. The entrance scores remained at an impressive level, ranging from 24 to 27 points for admission based on high school academic results. As a result, VKU fulfilled 100% of its enrollment target with 1,500 admitted students, bringing the total number of VKU students to nearly 8,000.
Nguyen Viet Thanh Dat, a freshman, was honored as the valedictorian of the 2025 intake
Especially, congratulations to freshman Nguyen Viet Thanh Dat, an alumnus of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Da Nang, who achieved an outstanding entrance score of 30 points and an impressive scholarship evaluation score of 30.10 points. He is a source of pride and inspiration, with many remarkable achievements, and was awarded a scholarship worth 50 million VND, funded by the University of Danang, VKU, and corporate sponsors.

On behalf of Hanwha Life Korea, Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Deputy General Director – extended his warmest congratulations to the new students of VKU’s 2025 intake, expressing his delight and honor to attend such a meaningful recognition ceremony. He shared the story of his own youth journey and inspired students to nurture big dreams, embrace a sense of mission and vision that goes beyond personal limits, taking inspiration from great figures like Elon Musk and Bill Gates. Mr. Hong expressed his strong belief that among today’s VKU students, there will be future “Elon Musks or Bill Gates of Vietnam”, and he wished them all continuous effort, academic excellence, and success on their upcoming journeys.
As part of VKU’s long-standing tradition, the program featured the recognition and scholarship awarding to outstanding new students. The scholarships were funded by corporate sponsors, the University of Danang, and VKU itself.

- Phan Nguyen Khai, alumnus of APU American International School, Da Nang, achieved an entrance scholarship score of 28.89 and enrolled in the Information Technology (Engineering) program. Scholarship value: 35 million VND
Second Highest Runner-up – 2025 Admission Season:
- Phan Ka Ka, alumnus of Ethnic Minority Boarding High School No. 2, Nghe An, achieved an entrance scholarship score of 28.06 and enrolled in the Artificial Intelligence (Engineering) program. Scholarship value: 30 million VND
