Participating in the GreyCTF 2026 Finals, held from June 27 to 28, 2026, at the School of Computing (COM1), National University of Singapore (NUS), the VSL.T1 team, consisting of students Le Anh Truong (class 23ES), Vo Van Phuc (class 23NS2), Tran Dinh Hoang Long (class 23NS2), and Nguyen Viet Tin (class 23NS2), competed against teams from many countries, including the USA, China, and Russia, in a wide range of advanced cybersecurity challenges, including Cryptography, Digital Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Binary Exploitation (Pwn), Web Security, AI Security, and practical vulnerability exploitation. Notably, this year the organizers introduced a hardware control challenge (using ESP32, Rasp Pi, etc.) in the final round. Demonstrating a strong competitive spirit, effective teamwork, and a solid foundation of professional knowledge, the VSL.T1 team successfully completed the challenges and ranked 15th among the 21 teams competing in the Finals. This is a remarkable achievement for VKU students, marking their first participation in a highly competitive international competition and further affirming the quality of the university’s training as well as the capabilities of its students in the field of Information Security.

Both sides also discussed various areas of potential future collaboration, including student and faculty exchange programs, the organization of short courses, joint scientific research, co-hosting academic conferences, and strengthening university-industry partnerships. These exchanges opened up many practical opportunities for cooperation, contributing to VKU’s internationalization strategy and enhancing the quality of its education and research. On this occasion, VKU students also had the opportunity to interact with students from Singapore and exchange knowledge on cybersecurity, particularly experiences in competing in international CTF competitions.
The trip to Singapore not only provided VKU students with valuable experience in one of the region’s leading cybersecurity competitions but also contributed to expanding the university’s international partnerships with prestigious educational institutions. This activity represents an important step in realizing VKU’s strategy of becoming a leading digital university and training high-quality human resources to meet the demands of the digital economy and international integration.
Grey Cat The Flag (GreyCTF) is one of the leading international CTF competitions, bringing together many strong teams from universities and the global information security community. Teams advancing to the Finals must first outperform nearly 500 teams in the worldwide qualifying rounds before tackling a series of challenges designed by the organizers during the 24-hour final competition.
