Professor Harald Kuhn collaborates with and advises VKU on strategic research and development in strategic technology fields

On the afternoon of July 11, 2026, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang, held a meeting and presented the Strategic Advisor Certificate to Professor Harald Kuhn, Director of the Fraunhofer ENAS Institute of Nanoelectronic Systems, Germany. This appointment aims to strengthen connections with international experts, guide the development of strategic technology fields, and enhance the university’s research and training capacity in the new phase. Attending the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector, along with representatives from various departments and faculties of VKU.

Overview of the meeting

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of the university, expressed his pleasure and honor in welcoming Professor Harald Kuhn to VKU. The university highly appreciated Professor Harald Kuhn’s contributions and academic prestige in research and technology education, particularly in strategic and emerging fields such as quantum technology. The university also expressed its confidence that Professor Kuhn’s collaboration would make significant contributions to the development of VKU as a leading digital technology university in the region.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the university delivered his remarks

During the meeting, the university leadership provided an overview of VKU’s establishment, development strategy, and outstanding achievements. As one of the six member universities of the University of Da Nang and one of the three universities specializing in information and communication technology in Vietnam, VKU was established in 2020 based on the friendly cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea, inheriting more than 20 years of experience in information technology and communication education. The university currently has nearly 8,000 students enrolled in 22 majors and specializations in the fields of digital technology and digital economy. Each year, VKU admits approximately 1,500 students, attracting high-quality applicants with average admission scores ranging from 24 to 27 points.

VKU is focusing on developing strategic technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor integrated circuit design, information security, robotics, and quantum technology, while also promoting the internationalization of its academic programs, scientific research, and innovation activities. With a modern laboratory system developed through ODA projects and business partnerships, along with a graduate employment rate exceeding 90%, VKU is steadily establishing itself as a prestigious institution for education, research, and innovation in digital technology in Vietnam.

Professor Harald Kuhn shares his perspectives

During the meeting, Professor Harald Kuhn highly appreciated VKU’s development orientation as well as Da Nang’s potential to become a regional hub for technology education and research. According to the Professor, Da Nang’s strategic geographical location, innovation ecosystem, and dynamic development environment provide significant advantages for VKU in attracting talented lecturers, researchers, and students.

Regarding research orientation, Professor Harald Kuhn recommended that VKU focus on semiconductor integrated circuit design rather than investing in large-scale manufacturing, thereby leveraging its high-quality human resources and avoiding direct competition with major technology corporations. In addition, he suggested that the university pay greater attention to promising fields such as photonics and quantum communication, which offer strong application potential and are well suited to current investment conditions. Regarding research infrastructure, Professor Harald Kuhn introduced the flexible cleanroom model (Cleanroom in the Room) as a cost-effective solution that still meets the requirements for semiconductor technology research and development.

To strengthen long-term cooperation, VKU’s leadership respectfully invited Professor Harald Kuhn to serve as a Strategic Advisor to the university in promoting research and development in strategic technology fields, and he graciously accepted the invitation. Professor Harald Kuhn expressed his honor in assuming this role and committed to accompanying VKU in research, education, academic networking, and the development of high-quality human resources.
