On the morning of June 16, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang was honored to welcome a delegation of 40 leading semiconductor business leaders and investors (Cadence, BTC/ CDVM, Synopsys, Nanochap – Australia, Mediatek – Singapore, CoAsia SEMI VN, ETA Semiconductor, Dolphin Technology, Infineon Technologies, Tektronix, CMCATI, Qorvo VN, SGmicro, NSING, HCL Vietnam, Ampere Computing, DreamBig, Bitsilica, MBI, ADT & SNST, AntDemy, …) for a visit and working session to strengthen and promote cooperation between businesses and schools in the field of semiconductors as well as to create conditions for the development of high-quality human resources for this key industry.

The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector and leaders of affiliated units. On the side of Da Nang City, there was Mr. Le Hoang Phuc – Director of the Da Nang Center for Research and Training in Semiconductor Design and Artificial Intelligence (DSAC).

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU was pleased to welcome the delegation of business leaders and investors of semiconductor industry in Vietnam. VKU is a leading public university in training and researching information technology, communications and digital economy. It has pioneered not only in innovating training programs and teaching methods according to the orientation of liberal education with 100% of graduation theses done in English and learners trained comprehensively with “Virtue – Intelligence – Body – Beauty” but also in opening and training new majors of industry 4.0. In fact, VKU has been the first university in the Central – Central Highlands to announce enrollment and training of semiconductor IC engineers since 2024. VKU has played an important role, taking the lead in cooperation with prestigious partners such as The Information Technology Institute (ITI) – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Synopsys, … to train the first course of source lecturers in Da Nang City including 24 learners who are lecturers selected from universities and to open semiconductor IC upskills course for final-year students to serve the urgent need for high-quality human resources in this field. The visit and working session of 40 leaders and representatives of semiconductor IC enterprises at VKU today not only demonstrated the trust and appreciation of enterprises for VKU’s reputation and quality of ICT and semiconductor IC training but also affirmed and promised the companionship, support and cooperation of large enterprises in training, granting scholarships and job opportunities for VKU students in the coming time.

Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of VKU shared information about VKU’s semiconductor IC human resource training in the past time

Accordingly, Dr. Tran The Son said that since 2021, VKU has started training in the fields of Embedded Systems, IoT, and some modules on electronic circuit design, microprocessors, etc. and is currently implementing specialized training programs in the field of semiconductor integrated circuits. VKU has 30 full-time lecturers in microelectronics, semiconductor IC, and computer engineering. Regarding training conditions, VKU is proud to own modern facilities for training in semiconductor IC design. VKU has also invested heavily in laboratories and research centers with advanced equipment supported by many prestigious partners domestically and internationally. In particular, VKU has established the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH) which gathers leading equipment and technology for teaching and research. It is expected that in 2025, about 40 students transferred into semiconductor IC design from the closely-related majors will graduate and from 2028 onwards, there will be graduates in the right field of semiconductor IC design.

After the introduction, the delegation of semiconductor business leaders and investors visited the short-term semiconductor IC design class at the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH) at VKU. Here, the delegation witnessed the practical teaching process and modern equipment that VKU is using. VKU’s semiconductor IC laboratory is fully equipped with advanced equipment for students’ research and practice. In addition, businesses also have the opportunity to interview students directly. This is an occasion for them to evaluate students’ actual proficiency, and at the same time listen to students’ aspirations about their major and future career opportunities. The students also demonstrated their knowledge, skills and confidence in response to questions from employers.

At the end of the visit and working session, representatives of the delegation of semiconductor business leaders and investors expressed their impression of VKU’s careful preparation and development potential in this field. Thereby, they committed to supporting and cooperating with VKU to jointly develop high-quality human resources for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry. The visit not only marked a new step forward in the cooperative relationship between VKU and businesses, but also opened up many opportunities for future cooperation. This is an important part of the strategy for sustainable development and enhancing the position of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.
