On the morning of March 29, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang had a reception and working session with Vice President of Hanwha Life, ChildFund Korea and the delegation on the occasion of the Grand Final of the 5th Informatics Olympiad in the Central – Central Highlands – 2024.

Overview of the meeting

Attending the event, there were Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Vice President of Hanwha Life, Mr. Hwang Jun Hwan – Director of Hanwha Life Vietnam and Ms. Shin Joung Won – Director in Charge of Social Impact Initiatives, ChildFund Korea (CFK). On the VKU side, there were Assoc. Prof. PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chairman of VKU Council, Board of Rectors and Leaders of Departments, Faculties and Centers.

Discussing at the working session, Assoc. Prof. PhD. Huynh Cong Phap expressed his pleasure to welcome and work with Vice President of Hanwha Life, ChildFund Korea and the delegation. He introduced the main features of VKU as a public university under Da Nang University, founded in 2020. Up to now, VKU has nearly 6,000 students majoring in the fields of information technology, communications, and digital economy. VKU’s admission scores ranged from 23 to 26 points for 14 training majors/minors. Additionally, VKU is also the only university in the Central – Central Highlands region receiving huge investment and support from both Vietnamese and Korean government. Through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), VKU gained significant support in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and equipment which were synchronously invested along with advanced training programs from Korea and a team of high-quality lecturers trained hard from advanced countries around the world.

In recent years, despite certain difficulties, VKU has paid much attention to running programs and activities for the community and society. Typically, the school’s preferential tuition remained at a low rate – from 5.5 million VND to 6.8 million VND/semester (for 3 years). Dormitory fees ranged from 120,000 to 200,000 VND/student/month. Many other policies were also formulated to support entrance scholarships and study encouragement scholarships for students. Besides, VKU periodically organized the Informatics Olympiad in the Central – Central Highlands which has connected thousands of students in 63 provinces/cities nationwide to participate in with the aim of finding and fostering information technology talents for the country in general and the Central and Central Highlands region in particular. The school organized a contest to incubate creative ideas for startups to help students have the opportunity to implement their ideas and creativity as well. Additionally, it also offers a wide range of scholarships for high school students in the Central, etc.

Accordingly, VKU really needs the support and companionship from Hanwha Life and ChildFund Korea to create more favorable opportunities for students in the Central – Central Highlands region in particular and the whole country in general with the spirit of educational philosophy “Humanity – Dedication – Liberation”.

On behalf of Hanwha Life Korea, Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Vice President of the Group expressed his gratitude for the school’s thoughtful and warm welcome. He also acknowledged and highly appreciated the programs and activities that VKU has been and is continuing to undertake. He said Hanwha Life had entered the Vietnamese market in 2008 with the goal of not only creating profits in business activities, but also creating values to accompany the social community in Vietnam. In fact, many programs for social communities in Vietnam have been implemented, notably the program of awarding health insurance cards to poor and near-poor households in many localities nationwide, and a number of projects to construct and renovate medical stations and schools for mountainous and remote areas in the North of Vietnam. Attending this event at VKU, he realized the great significance of accompanying and supporting people-centered development, which will contribute to building a team of future talents devoting more to the community.

Particularly, based on the recent MOU between VKU, Hanwha Life Vietnam and CFK, the 5th Central and Central Highlands Informatics Olympiad 2024 has received much contribution from Hanwha Life Vietnam and ChildFund Korea in accompanying, supporting, and creating the best favorable conditions for candidates and parents to participate in the exam.

On the occasion of the visit and work at VKU, Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Vice President of Hanwha Life, Mr. Hwang Jun Hwan – Director of Hanwha Life Vietnam and the school’s leaders planted a memorial Poinciana tree to mark the sustainable and great cooperation among the parties. Hopefully, in the coming time, Hanwha Life and ChildFund Korea will continue to accompany and support the school to achieve the set goals, contributing to further developing the good friendship between the two countries in the future.
