On September 20, 2025 in Hanoi, the Final Round of the IoT Challenge 2025 – organized by FPT Software in collaboration with Silicon Labs – successfully wrapped up in a vibrant and emotional atmosphere. And once again, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Danang University, was proudly recognized when the RIO team excelled over a series of opponents to win the championship title of the competition. This brilliant achievement has reaffirmed the intelligence, courage and persistent creativity of VKU students, and at the same time marked another significant milestone in the journey to affirm the position of the university on the national technology map.

RIO Team won the championship with SMARTMED STOCK solution – Solution for the future pharmaceutical industry

Representing the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Electronics, the RIO team – Huynh Ngoc Khanh (Leader), Nguyen Van Thien, Vo Thien, Ngo Van Nhan, and La Van Anh Chi – impressed the competition with SMARTMED STOCK, an innovative solution designed for the future of the pharmaceutical industry. This product was researched and developed based on real-world practice, aiming to tackle long-standing inefficiencies in pharmaceutical warehouse management across hospitals and medical facilities. SMARTMED STOCK is not just a technological idea, but a comprehensive solution, helping to automate the management process to reduce personnel costs, improve accuracy in inventory and control of pharmaceuticals, and optimize time – a vital factor in the modern medical industry.

Students delivered their solutions to the judging panel

In the final round, witnessed by hundreds of contestants, business representatives and technology experts from FPT Software, Silicon Labs (USA), as well as leading researchers from Vietnam and Japan, the RIO team confidently showcased their knowledge, courage, and mastery during both their presentation and debate. Its high applicability and capacity to address real-world challenges intelligently and effectively enabled SMARTMED STOCK to conquer the jury and surpass a series of other creative ideas to win the highest position. This success also reflects the strong sense of social responsibility among VKU students – not only to assert themselves but also to serve the community and make technology more accessible to society.

The IoT Challenge 2025 competition is a nationwide technology competition, attracting 140 teams with 700 contestants from 70 universities and showcasing more than 200 innovative technology ideas. This is a clear testament to the vitality and aspirations of the Vietnamese technology student community. With the theme “Edge AI for Smart Retail”, the competition focuses on developing AI application solutions on devices to optimize operations and enhance customer experience in the retail industry. In the final round, the top 10 teams demonstrated breakthrough products with creative imprints and high practical applicability.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dong – Chief Delivery Officer of FPT Software, emphasized: “The IoT Challenge is more than just a competition – it is a journey to connect, share and spread the spirit of innovation between FPT Software and Silicon Labs.” Representing the technology experts, Mr. Shoaib Javed – Director of Software Engineering & Developer Services at Silicon Labs affirmed: “Today’s award is just the starting point, this experience is the true launching pad for your future.” These messages make RIO’s victory even more meaningful, as it represents not just an award but also a significant milestone in VKU students’ journey to conquer knowledge and pursue international integration.

The resounding victory at IoT Challenge 2025 is a well-deserved outcome of the RIO team’s persistent efforts, solidarity and burning passion for technology. This achievement also serves as a shining example of the strong connection between University, Enterprises, and Students, reflecting VKU’s commitment to creating opportunities for learners to unlock their full potential, engage with reality, affirm their own value, and spread the power of knowledge to the community.

With the title of Champion, RIO – VKU has left a strong mark in the national technology arena, while inspiring the future generations of students to commit wholeheartedly, innovate boldly, and contribute meaningfully. That achievement not only brings glory to VKU but also contributes to reaffirming the position of Vietnamese students in the digital age, when young minds are ready to accompany the country on the journey of innovation and development.
