Launching the 2nd DDC 2024 National Information Security Competition

On the afternoon of June 27, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (VKU), The University of Danang in collaboration with Evvo Labs Company, Singapore officially held the Launch Ceremony of Vietnam Information Security Competition: Digital Dragons: The Cybersecurity Challenge 2024 (DDC 2024) for the 2nd time. This is an intellectual, highly academic playground, giving candidates many opportunities to demonstrate and develop their knowledge and skills on information security as well as the real combat experience.

Attending the Launch Ceremony, there was Ms. Bui Thanh Ha – Head of the Cyberspace Emergency Response Center in Da Nang, Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications; Representatives from Departments and Agencies in Da Nang; Representatives from The University of Da Nang, from the Universities in the Central – Central Highlands region and from IT Enterprise.

On the side of the Organizing Committee, there was Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communications Technology, Head of the organizing committee; Mr. Vince Chew – CEO of Evvo Labs Company, Co-Head of the organizing committee, together with the leaders from faculties, departments, lecturers and students of the university and a large number of students.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the competition, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the University affirmed: VKU, one of the three leading universities training and providing human resources experts in Information Technology, Communications and Digital Economy in the country and is the only one in the Central – Central Highlands region, has been making great efforts in training Information Security major, developing research groups, cooperating with Korea and businesses to build research and training Labs specializing in this field.

With its responsibility and mission, in the recent times, VKU has cooperated with Singapore’s Evvo Labs Company, especially with the professional sponsorship of the Information Security Department to initiate and organize the Information Security Competition: Digital Dragons to spread and raise awareness of the importance of this field, to create conditions and a useful academic playground for students nationwide. This helps students to exchange knowledge and to discover talented students in Information Security for expert training. Students participating in this contest not only have the opportunity to receive valuable prizes, but also receive contact, support, and training from leading experts in this field from VKU, Evvo Labs and other units.

Representative from the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ms. Bui Thanh Ha, Head of the Cyberspace Emergency Response Center in Da Nang happily accompanies and supports the meaningful competition. Ms. Ha said that for the last 3 months of 2024, Vietnam has witnessed more than 2,300 attacks on information systems of different industries and fields. Although the number has decreased compared to last year, the attacks are increasingly large in scale which have left serious economic damage and made the need for human resources in the information security industry become more serious. The Department of Information Security highly appreciates VKU’s attempts in organizing the contest to discover talents in information security and nurture passion for this field among students nationally. With content and format which is similar to actual jobs in the information security industry, it helps contestants accumulate real combat experience and practice solutions to prevent and fight against cyber-attacks; create opportunities for students to get used to their future jobs and contribute to cybersecurity human resources for the country.

The Digital Dragons: The Cybersecurity Challenge 2024 – the 2nd DDC 2024 competition was officially launched on June 27, 2024, and will last until September 21, 2024. The system will open automatically to teams for registration starting at 12:00 on June 28, 2024. The official competition will take place from August 10 to September 21, 2024, with 2 preliminary rounds, quarterfinals (in online form) and 2 semi-finals, final (in onsite form at VKU). The content will focus on basic to advanced knowledge and skills relating to information security, including accessing into web applications, networks, cryptographic techniques, reverse algorithms, and XXE vulnerabilities injection (XML External Entity), binary exploits, advanced cryptography and Real-World Scenarios, etc. with a diverse number of challenges at different levels through the rounds.

In particular, this year’s competition will not only have simple challenges but also attach stories into the challenges to better understand fictional and non-fictional Vietnamese culture. The plot is built according to the theme of legends on dragons with the context of historical and cultural locations in Vietnam. The teams will compete with each other to find the dragons’ treasure. The total bonus of this year’s competition is up to 100,000,000 VND with many attractive prizes. The teams reaching the semi-finals will receive free accommodation at VKU.

VKU hopes that Digital Dragons: The Cybersecurity Challenge 2024 will attract the interest and active participation of students from the whole country. Moreover, the competition will become a notable event in the field of information security, contributing to improving knowledge and awareness of information security for the community.
