Workshop “Inside AI: How It Works and What Comes Next”: VKU Students Explore the Mechanisms and Future Trends of Artificial Intelligence

On the afternoon of March 5, 2026, Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, in collaboration with AusEd Global (AUG) and the University of New South Wales Sydney (UNSW Sydney, Australia), organized a specialized workshop titled “Inside AI: How It Works and What Comes Next.” The event aimed to provide students with updated knowledge about artificial intelligence (AI) while creating an academic forum for exchange with international experts, thereby helping orient students’ learning and research in this rapidly developing technological field.

Overview of the workshop

Attending the workshop, from the Australian partners were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Gustavo Batista, Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW Sydney (keynote speaker); Ms. Nhung Ho, Market Development Manager of AUG Vietnam; and Ms. Ngo Thanh Thao, Mekong & Vietnam Regional Manager of UNSW Sydney. From VKU, participants included Dr. Tran The Son, Vice Rector, representatives of various departments and faculties, representatives from the Department of Science and International Cooperation, the University of Danang and more than 200 lecturers and students interested in the field of artificial intelligence.

During the workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Gustavo Batista delivered the presentation “Inside AI: How It Works and What Comes Next,” focusing on explaining how modern AI systems operate. The talk clarified key foundations of AI, including the role of data, machine learning and deep learning models, as well as the processes of training and deploying AI systems in real-world applications. With many practical examples and accessible explanations, the presentation helped students better understand how AI technologies are applied in various areas such as data analysis, image recognition, natural language processing, and intelligent systems.

In addition to analyzing technical principles, the speaker also discussed notable future trends of artificial intelligence, particularly the development of large-scale AI models and the expanding applications of AI across many aspects of life, economy, and society. These insights raised many topics of interest among students, especially regarding career orientation, research and study opportunities in international environments, and the essential skills needed to pursue a career in artificial intelligence.

Overview of the working session between VKU, AUG, and UNSW Sydney

Prior to the workshop, representatives of VKU, AUG, and UNSW Sydney also held a meeting to discuss potential cooperation in training and research. The parties introduced their respective strengths and discussed several directions for future collaboration, such as academic networking, student and faculty exchanges, and the implementation of joint training and research programs in information technology and artificial intelligence. In particular, UNSW Sydney plans to organize a Master Class program with certification for VKU students in the near future. The program will focus on advanced topics in artificial intelligence and digital skills in practical environments, with flexible formats including both online and in-person sessions. This initiative is expected to create opportunities for VKU students to gain deeper access to international knowledge and experience in the AI field.

The workshop “Inside AI: How It Works and What Comes Next” provided VKU students with valuable opportunities to access new knowledge from international experts while promoting a dynamic academic environment in the field of artificial intelligence. The event also opens up promising prospects for cooperation between VKU and international educational partners, contributing to enhancing the quality of training and research in information technology in the coming years.
