VKU: Workshop on Innovation, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship: Knowledge Connection and Future Creation

Within the framework of the event series “Celebrating the 5th establishment Anniversary of VKU (January 3rd, 2020 – January 3rd, 2025): 22-year journey of history and development”, on the afternoon of January 2nd, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang organized a Workshop on Innovation, Collaboration and Entrepreneurship with the support of KOICA and Hanwha Life to promote innovation and build a sustainable startup ecosystem through connecting the startup community.

Overview of the workshop

Attending the workshop, on behalf of VKU, were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chair of the University Council, Vice Rectors Dr. Tran The Son and Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho; On the international guest side, there were Mr. Hong Jong Pyo – Vice President of Hanwha Life (South Korea), Mr. Hwang Jun Hwan – Chairman of Member’s Council cum CEO of Hanwha Life Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn – Vice President for Research and Information Technology Development – KMUTNB (KMUTNB), Thailand; Prof. Kang Sun Moo – Kyung Hee University, South Korea; Dr. Lee Jong Won – Field Manager of ODA PMC; Representatives from FPT Software, LG, Enclave, Iviettech, Rikeiisoft, L.LINE and other partner organizations; Leaders, lecturers, and students from VKU, as well as six participating teams of VKU Startup.

Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the University delivered the opening speech.

In his opening speech, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the University expressed his sincere thanks to all delegates attending the workshop. Thereby, emphasizing the role of VKU in training high-quality human resources for the Central – Central Highlands and the whole country. The University has actively cooperated with domestic and foreign enterprises to perfect the training program, encourage research, innovation and technology transfer. The training programs at VKU are designed to be practical, in line with global trends, focusing on foreign languages, soft skills and modern technology fields such as Semiconductor Microchips, AI, Fintech, etc. Therefore, strengthening cooperation with enterprises is an important factor helping VKU improve the quality of training, research and sustainable development.

Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Vice President of Hanwha Life, Delivers a Speech and Congratulatory Message

Representing Hanwha Life, Mr. Hong Jeong Pyo – Vice President, delivered a speech and extended his congratulations on VKU’s outstanding achievements in the field of information and communication technology on the occasion of its 5th establishment anniversary. He affirmed that Hanwha Life would continue to accompany VKU in nurturing talent in the fields of finance, information, and communication technology in Vietnam.

Student Teams Present Startup Projects at VKU Startup

One of the highlights of the workshop was the final round of the VKU Startup 2024 creative startup competition with 6 excellent ideas that are practical and innovative, demonstrating creativity and high application potential: AIAgingCare – Virtual assistant for the elderly (AIAgingCare Group); Application for disease identification on coffee leaves (CloseAI Group); CATAI – Assistant for monitoring and analyzing calls (21AD Talent Group); Application for detecting mispronunciation in Vietnamese speech (DanangSpeech Group); Domain name reliability assessment system to detect malicious domain names (G4_eDG Group); Temperature, humidity control and fire warning system using LORA technology (Danang Ino Group). The topics were presented entirely in English and were evaluated by a jury consisting of international experts and representatives of businesses in the field of information technology. VKU Startup not only demonstrates the creativity of young students but also opens up opportunities to connect with investors and strategic partners, contributing to promoting the sustainable development of the startup ecosystem.

Speaker Huy Nguyen – CEO Olinno presented at the workshop

Besides, the workshop listened to a special presentation session, sharing experiences with the topic “Entrepreneurial Journey of Opening and Running Businesses: Lessons for Young Entrepreneurs” from speaker Huy Nguyen – CEO Olinno. As an experienced entrepreneur, CEO Huy Nguyen has successfully established and developed ten companies and branches, overcoming challenges and taking advantage of opportunities to build sustainable businesses. With the story of innovation and perseverance, he brought practical lessons and valuable advice specifically for potential young founders.

The Workshop on Innovation, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship was successfully held, leaving a deep impression in the series of events celebrating the 5th establishment anniversary of VKU. From the valuable lessons learned from the speakers, the creative ideas from the VKU Startup competition, to the presence and companionship of domestic and foreign businesses and partners, the workshop brought practical values, creating a solid foundation for the development of a sustainable startup ecosystem. The event not only affirmed VKU’s pioneering role in promoting innovation and startups but also opened up valuable cooperation opportunities between VKU, businesses and the international community.
