VKU visited and worked with KOICA Vietnam Office
On the morning of October 27, 2023, the delegation of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), led by Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU visited and worked with KOICA Vietnam Office (KOICA Vietnam). The delegation also included PhD. Nguyen Quang Vu – Head, Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, PhD. Pham Nguyen Minh Nhut – Head, Administrative Organization Department, PhD. Le Ha Nhu Thao – Deputy Head in charge, Department of Testing and Educational Quality Assurance, MS. Vo Hung Cuong – Deputy Director, Learning Reources and Communication Center.

Welcoming and chairing the meeting at KOICA Vietnam were Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, Director and Ms. Yoo Su Yeon, Deputy Director.
Opening the working session, Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap, on behalf of VKU leaders, staff, lecturers and students, respectfully thanked KOICA Vietnam for accompanying and supporting VKU during the past time, especially for the project to improve education – training, management and research capacity of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology worth 7.7 million USD from non-refundable ODA capital of Korean Government through KOICA (referred to as Korean ODA project) in the 2022-2027 period. On December 19, 2022, with the support and sponsorship of KOICA, VKU solemnly celebrated the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea and the Korean ODA Project Kick-off Ceremony.

The Rector also shared with KOICA Vietnam the typical achievements of VKU in 2023. Highlights include:
+ Admissions scores continuously increased compared to that of previous years for all 14 majors/minors. Admission scores ranged from 24 to 26 points (based on high school academic records) and from 22 to 26 points (based on The National High School Exam scores). The average admission score in 2023 (equivalent to 24 points) increased by 02 points compared to 2022 and 6.0 points compared to 2020 (the first enrollment year whose average admission score is equivalent to 18 points). In particular, the number of candidates admitted to the school according to direct admission dramatically increased up to more than 400 students, accounting for nearly 30% of the total 1,538 enrolled students, bringing the total number of students of the school to nearly 6,000 students.
+ VKU has opened the Information Technology Engineering with Korean language enhancement course (the first course) in cooperation with FTP Software Central Region Company to provide Korean and global labor market with high quality human resources.
+ With the mission of a leading and key public university providing high-tech human resources for the whole country and Da Nang city, VKU is the first university in the Central – Central Highlands to have completed procedures for opening and enrolling students in Circuit Design Engineering.
+ The number of articles annually published in domestic and international scientific journals with ISI/Scopus index increases significantly. VKU’s lecturers in the fields of IT, communication and digital economy are considered the most powerful and highly qualified staff in the Central – Central Highlands as well as in the whole country. In addition, VKU has also chaired and co-organized lots of significant academic activities and playgrounds for students across the country such as the Central-Central Highlands Informatics Olympiad, MOS World Championship, National Youth Informatics Contest and Festival of Science and Creativity, VNOI Cup and so on.
+ In particular, with the initiative to establish the connection and development forum named ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR) in Vietnam, VKU has connected the network of leaders and scholars from Southeast Asia universities to promote innovation and scientific research.
+ Those honorable results have shown the desire to rise up and constantly pursue the educational philosophy of Humanity – Service – Liberalization along with the core value system of Quality – Prestige – Professionalism of VKU’s leaders, staff, lecturers and students, thereby contributing to developing VKU as a model of friendship between Vietnam and Korea.

At the working session at KOICA Vietnam, Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, Director of KOICA Vietnam Office, congratulated VKU for successfully organizing events in recent times. He noted that in the past year, KOICA Vietnam and VKU worked together effectively and successfully for the project of improving education – training, administration and research capacity of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology in the 2022-2027 period. On behalf of KOICA Vietnam, he wished and believed that VKU would achieve more success to create a lasting friendship symbol of the two countries. KOICA Vietnam will always take responsibility to accompany, support and create the most favorable conditions for VKU to build a strong and prestigious academic brand that meets international standards.
Before ending the working session, Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap respectfully thanked KOICA Vietnam for the solemn welcome. VKU’s Rector emphasized that VKU was well aware of the school’s success as a model of cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Korea and highy appreciated the affection of the Korean people for Vietnam. Therefore, VKU’s leaders, staff and lecturers are responsible and determined to build up VKU into a leading university in Vietnam and internationally ranked. Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap also respectfully invited Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, Director of KOICA Vietnam Office to visit and work at VKU.
