VKU Students Excel at ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2024
On October 19, 2024, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA) hosted the grand final of the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2024 (ASCIS 2024), sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Information and Communications. This prestigious event featured 83 teams, including 56 teams from Vietnam and 27 teams from nine other ASEAN countries, competing in Groups A and B.
VKU Student at ASCIS 2024
Participating in the ASCIS competition for the third time, representing the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, two outstanding student teams reached the final round. Team VSL.Xp10r3rs – consisting of students Pham Minh Tri (21SE1), Vo Van Bao (22NS), Le Anh Truong (23ES), and Pham Hoang Phat (NS)—excelled in Group A, ranking among the top 20 teams (19 Vietnamese teams and 1 team from the National University of Singapore). Meanwhile, team VSL.Defenders – with members Le Quang Long (20NS), Le Dinh Vu (23CE.B), Nguyen Ngoc Mai Phuong (22NS), and Le Thi Khanh Dung (20NS) – competed in Group B under the guidance of Dr. Dang Quang Hien and Dr. Hoang Huu Duc from the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Electronics.
In the final round, the teams of Group A competed in the form of Direct Attack – Defense, the teams tried to protect their systems from attacks from other teams while trying to attack and earn points from the opponent’s systems. The teams of Group B competed in the form of Jeopardy – Overcoming the challenge by topic. The teams must solve information security challenges to find “flags” hidden in servers, applications, or other network resources. When finding the flags, the teams sent the flags to the organizing committee’s system to score points. There are 5 groups of challenges: Reverse engineering, Software vulnerability exploitation, Web application vulnerability exploitation, Cryptography and encryption, and Other types (digital forensics, programming, steganography, etc.).
VSL.Defenders Team Wins Encouragement Prize at the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2024
In the final results, VKU was honored to have the VSL.Defenders team, which excellently ranked 11/63 in Group B and won the Encouragement Prize at the ASEAN Student Contest on Information Security 2024.
