VKU promotes strategic cooperation with Yokohama city (Japan) in high-tech human resource training and development
On the afternoon of July 1, 2025, Vietnam-Korea of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) the University of Danang welcomed Mr. Yutaka Mikami, Representative of Yokohama City (Japan) in Southeast Asia, for a working meeting. The meeting took place in an open and candid atmosphere, aiming to establish a comprehensive cooperative relationship between the two sides in the fields of education, research, and high-tech human resource development in information technology and semiconductor microchip technology.
Overview of the meeting
During the meeting, Dr. Tran The Son, Vice Rector of the University, introduced VKU as a leading public university in the Central – Central Highland and nationwide in the field of digital technology and digital economy. With nearly 7,000 students, admitting more than 1,500 new students each year, VKU has been at the forefront of training in modern fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Information Security, Financial Technology, and especially Semiconductor Microchip Design Engineering, a field that both Vietnam and Japan are particularly focused on in their strategies for developing high-tech human resources.

VKU is currently implementing many successful bilingual training programs, notably collaborating with NiX Education since 2022, aiming to train IT human resources proficient in Japanese and ready to work in Japanese companies. The program has quickly expanded in scale and proven its quality, with the first batch of 33 students growing to 81 students in the most recent batch (K23), with nearly 50 students studying engineering. Nearly 100% of students from the first batch have been accepted by Japanese companies for internships, probation, and recruitment, and more than 40 Japanese companies have directly visited VKU for tours, work, recruitment, and program development, which has affirmed the attraction and prestige of this cooperation model.
In 2025, VKU will continue to expand the scale of the program with a recruitment target of 160 students for the K24 batch, including three Software Technology classes and a new class in Semiconductor Microchip Design, directly addressing the semiconductor workforce needs of both Vietnam and Japan. All students in the program will be fully funded for Japanese language tuition from basic to specialized levels. The training model is designed to integrate specialized learning and Japanese language learning, applying advanced methods such as flipped classrooms, project-based learning, and real-life case studies to help students develop comprehensive skills in professional knowledge, foreign languages, and working in an international environment.
Mr. Yutaka Mikami, representative of Yokohama City is sharing insights
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Yutaka Mikami shared that Yokohama City is currently facing challenges due to the rapidly aging population, while Da Nang has the advantage of a young student workforce, especially strong in IT and microchip design fields. Therefore, establishing a cooperation framework for training and recruiting human resources between Da Nang and Yokohama will not only bring benefits to both cities but also enhance the long-term Vietnam-Japan cooperation. He proposed two cooperation models: First, students from Da Nang universities would receive Japanese language training alongside their studies, including both communication Japanese and specialized vocabulary, laying a solid foundation for working in Japan after graduation. Yokohama companies will help with job introductions and specialized training programs when students arrive in Japan. Second, final-year students in Da Nang would complete their Japanese language training in Vietnam and then be received by Japanese companies, which will continue to support their learning, skill development, and job placement in a professional environment. This model aims not only to train high-quality human resources for Japan but also expects that after working for some time, these young people will return to Da Nang to contribute to technological development and international connections for their hometown.
The meeting confirmed the commitment to cooperation between VKU and Yokohama City, Japan, opening up many new development opportunities in training and supplying high-quality technology human resources. It also reinforced VKU’s role as a bridge between Vietnamese education and the international labor market, especially Japan, a country always in need of digital technology human resources. With its strategic vision, VKU continues to affirm its position as a prestigious training center, integrating and leading in global development trends.
