VKU Organizes Experiential Learning Trip – Unlocking Career Mindset for Digital Tourism and Travel Management Students
On the afternoon of March 26, 2026, students majoring in Digital Tourism and Travel Management from the Faculty of Digital Economy and E-Commerce, Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang, participated in a meaningful field trip to Sheraton Grand Danang Resort & Spa. This internationally recognized five-star resort is known for its luxurious setting, diverse dining system, and its role as a venue for high-level events during APEC 2017.

This activity is one of VKU’s key initiatives to enhance the practical orientation of its academic programs, strengthening the connection between classroom learning and the realities of the labor market. Through this trip, students not only reinforced their academic knowledge but also directly observed and experienced a real working environment. As a result, they were able to develop a clearer career mindset and better align their future goals with societal demands.

During the session, representatives of the resort provided an overview of the organizational structure, operational processes, and human resource standards in the hospitality and tourism industry. Notably, students were guided by experts on how to distinguish and select specialized knives used in high-end restaurants to deliver a standard steak dining experience. This engaging activity helped students gain deeper insight into the “art of service” in the culinary field. They also had the opportunity to experience professional knife sets currently used at The Grill restaurant, gaining a clearer understanding of service standards in 5-star hotels.

In addition, students explored Asian culinary culture, particularly Chinese cuisine, at Table 88 Restaurant within the resort. The setting, featuring a round table for eight guests with a traditional rotating tray, offered an authentic experience that blends traditional and modern culinary styles. Through this, students not only acquired knowledge about restaurant services but also developed a deeper understanding of cultural elements in customer experience.

One of the highlights of the trip was the visit to spaces associated with APEC 2017. Students had the opportunity to observe the chairs once used by heads of state during the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang, as well as explore the areas where official banquets for senior leaders were held. These experiences not only provided valuable practical insights but also helped students gain a clearer understanding of international event organization standards and the scale of the high-end service industry.
In addition, students had the opportunity to visit key departments such as the front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and event management. This allowed them to gain a clearer understanding of the coordinated operations among departments in running a hotel. These real-world observations also helped students better define their career orientation and identify suitable job positions for the future.
The field trip not only provided professional knowledge but also inspired a strong sense of career commitment, professionalism, and readiness for global integration. It serves as clear evidence of VKU’s industry-linked training approach, equipping students with a strong foundation to confidently enter the labor market in the digital era.
