VKU Hosts a Meeting with the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, Taiwan

On the afternoon of November 25, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, hosted a meeting with representatives from the Chiu Chang Mathematics Foundation, Taiwan, to discuss opportunities for cooperation in developing academic activities, research, and organizing international mathematics competitions in Vietnam.

From the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, Professor Sun Wen Hsien, President, attended the meeting, while from VKU, Assoc.Prof.Dr Huynh Cong Phap, Rector, was present along with leaders from various departments, faculties, and centers of the university.

At the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU, expressed his joy in welcoming Professor Sun Wen Hsien, President of the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, to visit and share academic insights with VKU students on Mathematics and AI.

VKU is a public university under the University of Da Nang, established in 2020 by merging constituent units with over 20 years of history. Currently, VKU has nearly 7,000 students enrolled in fields such as Information Technology, Communication, and Digital Economy. VKU’s admission results have been impressive, with an average admission score of 24 points across 16 fields in 2024. Notably, VKU enrolled students for the Semiconductor IC Design Engineering program with a high admission score of 27 points, ranking among the top in the country. With its mission as a leading public university, VKU plays a key role in providing high-quality human resources for fields such as information technology, communication, and digital economy. VKU has been pioneering and actively training and developing high-quality talent for strategic industries critical to the development of Da Nang city, the country, and global trends. Successful fields include semiconductor design, artificial intelligence, logistics, and in 2024, Financial Technology (Fintech). VKU’s focus is on training human resources for digital finance (TechFin – Technology Finance), enhancing English, Japanese, Korean language skills, and adaptability to changes, as well as fostering lifelong learning (liberation) in students.

Remarks by Professor Sun Wen Hsien, President of the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation

Professor Sun Wen Hsien, President of the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from VKU and was impressed by the dynamic learning environment and students. The Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation is based in Taiwan and focuses on promoting mathematics education with a creative and practical approach, developing academic reference materials, and supporting the organization of the International Mathematics Competition (IMC).

During the meeting, both sides discussed the development of a mathematics movement within the student community to improve logical thinking and problem-solving skills. They also explored collaboration in organizing the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in the Central – Central Highlands, hosted by VKU, and academic exchange and research in applied mathematics, with joint research between Vietnamese and Taiwanese faculty and experts.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to maintain contact and develop a detailed plan for future cooperation. The collaboration between VKU and the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation is expected to bring outstanding educational values, not only in mathematics but also in areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductor design, and digital economy.

During the visit, the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation also held a session with nearly 250 students from VKU’s bilingual programs in Information Technology, AI, and Semiconductor IC Design. The session focused on the relationship between mathematics and AI, emphasizing the foundational role of mathematics in building AI systems and advancing modern technology. With practical and visual content, the Chiu Chang Education Foundation inspired students and helped them understand how mathematics can solve complex problems in technology. This was not only an opportunity to spark interest in rapidly growing fields but also an important step to motivate VKU students to engage in future research and innovative projects.
