VKU hosted the first National Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence for Students (VOAI 2025)
On the afternoon of May 11, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Danang University was honored to be one of the hosts to organize the Preliminary Round of the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad for Students – VOAI 2025. This is the first competition held nationwide exclusively for high school students with outstanding abilities in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), with the goal of discovering and nurturing young talents, preparing the Vietnamese team to participate in the International AI Olympiad (IOAI).

The VOAI competition is part of the strategic direction set by the Ministry of Education and Training, contributing to the realization of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, issued by the Politburo on the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation – where artificial intelligence is identified as one of the key breakthrough areas. VOAI is not only an academic playground but also a platform for high school students across the country to develop creative programming skills and research, collaborate in teams and gain exposure to international standards in the field of AI.
VOAI 2025 Preliminary Round was held simultaneously at 5 testing sites with 147 candidates from many provinces/cities throughout the country. At VKU testing site, 22 candidates from the Central – Central Highlands region competed in a serious, fair and determined atmosphere. The contestants are excellent students who have won third prize or higher in the National Excellent Student Competition in Informatics, or achieved high results in STEM, Mathematics, Science – Technology competitions at national and international levels with programming skills aligned with the requirements of the AI contest. In particular, candidates who have participated in the AI Challenge Final Round within the framework of the Central – Central Highlands Informatics Olympiad in 2025 are allowed to take part in the Preliminary Round of VOAI 2025.
The Preliminary Round is conducted in the form of multiple-choice tests based on IOAI 2025 Syllabus, aiming to find the Top 100 students with the best AI skills nationwide, preparing for the Final Round on June 1, 2025. This test form is designed to eliminate the possibility of external support via the Internet, ensuring fairness and honesty.

Hosting the VOAI 2025 contest at VKU not only showcases the university’s capability to organize national-level academic competitions but also reaffirms its growing role and position within Vietnam’s higher education system – particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Technology, and Digital Transformation. As an application-oriented public university, VKU focuses on developing pioneering technology fields with global trends such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and digital technology applications in various fields. Notably, the Artificial Intelligence major has nearly 1,500 students selected through admission with an entrance score of 24 points or higher – clearly demonstrating the input quality and the strong appeal of this major at VKU. In 2024, the university also successfully organized the “Artificial Intelligence and Application – Danang AI for Life” competition with more than 1,000 students participating from 207 teams, creating a special mark in academic activities and creative research. The competition includes two categories: “AI for Life” – AI application products for life and “AI Challenge” – programming challenge to solve specialized AI problems, expected to become an annual activity to arouse the spirit of learning, creativity and technology startups in students.
Along with modern facilities, an increasingly evolving academic and research ecosystem and a team of highly qualified lecturers, VKU is consistently expanding international cooperation, staying updated on global technology trends and affirming a strong commitment to nurturing, supporting and empowering the young generation of talents to propel Vietnamese intelligence in the digital age.
