VKU celebrates the 30th commemoration of establishing Viet Nam – Korea diplomatic relations
On the morning – 19/12/2022, Viet Nam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang in conjunction with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) solemnly organized the Program to celebrate the 30th commemoration of establishing Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations in the Central – Central Highlands.
Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU: The success and development of VKU has an important and significance role , contributing to the promotion of bilateral relations between Viet Nam and Korea: especially providing high quality human resources for the Korea labor market, attracting many Korean enterprises to Vietnam for investment and vice versa; at the same time VKU will contribute to promote the image, culture, history and people of the two countries.
Attending the event, there was Mrs. Yeom Ji Yeon-He, Vice consul of the Republic of Korea Consulate in Vietnam; Mr. Cho Han Deo-Director of KOICA in Vietnam; Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Le Quang Son – Deputy Director of the University of Da Nang; Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU; Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Nguyen Thanh Binh-Chairman of VKU University Council; Representatives leaders of departments in Da Nang city, member universities, functional departments of the University of Da Nang; Korean enterprises and ICT enterprises Vietnam; universities, colleges and high schools boards in Central – Central Highlands, with staffs, lecturers and nearly 700 VKU and high school students attended.
Opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU said: 2022, marking an important historical milestone of the 30th commemoration of establishing Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations. In the excitement atmosphere of the people and the Government of 02 countries, many commemorative activities were organized, the Viet Nam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology in conjunction with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) organized the program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishing Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations in the Central – Central Highlands was important, contributing to deepen the friendship relations between the two countries of Vietnam – Korea, and this was also an occasion for VKU to express our deep gratitude to the People, the Governments of 02 countries of Vietnam and Korea for invested, supported the University’ development during the past time. In particular, in Da Nang city – the Central region, VKU emerged as a bright spot in the friendly relationship between the two countries with active cooperation and investment from the Korean Government’s ODA in the field of education and training.

At the program, the representative of KOICA – Mr. Cho Han Deog, Director of KOICA in Vietnam affirmed: For the past 30 years, Vietnam-Korea relations have achieved remarkable development steps through friendly relations and continuous mutual exchange. The result of that effort is the two countries’ relationship which has reached the level of “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”. I think that today’s program is an occasion for us to celebrate the above achievements and encourage each other on the efforts and cooperation of the two countries in the past. In particular, today’s celebration organized jointly by VKU will contribute to the sustainable development of the two countries based on the long-term cooperation with KOICA.
During the VKU’ development , in addition to being supported by the Government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the University of Da Nang, VKU also received attention and funding from the Government of the Republic of Korea, especially KOICA has accompanied and financed ODA projects and many other items, specifically:
+ In the period of 2006-2010, non-refundable USD 10 million’ ODA project with the State budget of Vietnam’ counterpart capital equivalent to USD 10 million, built infrastructure, lecture halls, dormitories.
+ In the period of 2012-2015, non-refundable USD 6.2 million’ ODA project with the State budget of Vietnam’ VND 71 billion counterpart capital , invested in laboratories, practices, training programs, documents, curricula; trained staff and lecturers.
+ In the period 2022-2027, the Technical Assistance Project on Capacity Enhancement for Education – Training, Management and Research of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communications Technology, 2022-2027 with a budget of $7.7 million.
Besides, the above investment projects, VKU has welcomed many Korean delegations to visit and work, including nearly 10 high-level delegations (Korean National Assembly delegation, Korean Parliamentary Secretariat, Korean Youth Leadership,…), 20 Korean universities (Soongsil University, MyongJi University, HanDong University, DongA University, TongMyong University,…), 40 corporations – enterprises (Taekwang Vina Company, Samsung Electronics Company in Viet Nam , Huyndai IT Group Korea, LG Vietnam Company,…), 300 students exchanging culture, 30 volunteers, experts to work at VKU. VKU also sent 60 staff to attend short-term training courses and 20 Doctors trained in Korea.
Delegates attending the 30th Commemoration of Vietnam – Korea Diplomatic Relations in the Central – Central Highlands
By the investment, support and assistance of both Vietnamese and Korean Governments, along with the attentive direction of the University of Da Nang and the great efforts of all staff and students, VKU has achieved proudly results and become a leading university in the Central – Central Highlands in terms of enrollment attraction, training quality, staff – lecturers, infrastructure, international cooperation and enterprises… with outstanding results can be mentioned:
+ Enrolment in 2022, in the top universities with high benchmarks of the country and the highest benchmarks in the Central – Central Highlands (transcript score of 24-25), attracting more than 20,000 applications with 1,500 enrolled students, increasing the total University student size nearly 5,500 students. In particular, the percentage of students with right jobs is nearly 95% after 06 months, with high salaries and working for many large and prestigious enterprises. In addition, VKU students have won many international and national prizes.
+ The number of published articles in national and world scientific journals for the annual ISI/Scopus index increases significantly. VKU’s teaching staff in the fields of IT, communication and digital economy are highly level and the most powerful in the Central – Central Highlands and the whole country. In addition, VKU has also hosted and organized many large activities, academic playgrounds for students, pupils across the country such as the Central – Central Highlands Informatics Olympic Games; the World Office Informatics Competition; the Young Informatics Competition and the Science, Creativity Festival; the World Super Programming Young Vietnamese VNOI, etc.
These respectful results, which have demonstrated the desire to rise, constantly pursue the educational philosophy of Humanity – Service – Liberalization and core value system of Quality – Prestige – Professionalism of all leaders, staff, lecturers and students of the University.
The success and development of VKU will play an important and significance role, contributing to promote bilateral cooperation between Vietnam-Korea: especially providing high quality human resources for the Korean labor market, attracting many Korean enterprises to Vietnam for investment and vice versa; At the same time, VKU will contribute to promote the image, culture, history and people of 02 countries.
The series of events to celebrate the 30th commemoration of establishing Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations was launched by VKU from October 2022 with activities widely deployed to students, pupils in the Central – Central Highlands region including the Poster design contest (with 29 entries), the Korean Handwriting Competition (with 35 entries) and the Vietnam – Korea Friendship Football Tournament (including 4 teams participating: VKU, Software Enterprise Association, LG Company, Grey Studio).
At the 30th commemoration, there are many Vietnamese – Korean cultural exchange activities with special performances of Samulnori traditional instruments, Taekwondo martial arts performances, and activities to experience folk games, languages, cuisine, Korean costumes,… all activities were welcomed positively and excitedly by students, pupils in a cheerful atmosphere.
