VKU – An International Hub for Students’ Knowledge, Research and Innovation in Southeast Asia and Beyond

From August 21 to 24, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang has become an international academic hub by hosting three important events: Summer School 2025 on Cyber ​​Security, the 2nd ACIR+ Research and Innovation Conference (AWRIS 2025), and the 1st ACIR+ Startup and Innovation Incubation Competition (APISI 2025). The programs are hosted by VKU in collaboration with the ACIR Community and FISU Vietnam, with sponsorship from KOICA, Hanwha Life, and ChildFund Korea.

Overview of the closing ceremony

The closing ceremony welcomed the participation of many prestigious international scholars and experts such as Prof. Mizuhito Ogawa, Prof. Satoshi Ono, Prof. Nguyen Le Minh, Dr. Tran Duc Vu and Ms. Nguyen Van Anh (JAIST, Japan); Prof. Jean-Yves Marion (University of Lorraine, France); Dr. Vu Viet Anh (University of Cambridge, UK), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thu Lam (Vietnam Cryptography Academy); Prof. Sun Moo Kang (Kyung Hee University, Korea); Representative of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The event also welcomed representatives from leading universities and research institutes in Vietnam and abroad, such as King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand; Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology (CADT); Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST); Information Technology Institute – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-ITI); University of Information and Communications Technology, Thai Nguyen University (ICTU);  Phenikaa University (PKU); Vietnam Academy of Cryptography Techniques (ACTVN); College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), Can Tho University; ESEO University, France. On the business side, the event was joined by a representative from L.LINE Company (Korea). Representing VKU were Vice Rectors Dr. Tran The Son and Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, along with various leaders from departments, faculties, and centers, students and delegates  from participating countries.

Nine distinguished speakers featured in Summer School 2025

Within the framework of the event, Summer School 2025 featured in-depth lectures and discussions on pressing topics of global cybersecurity issues, ranging from AI-driven malware detection and anti-ransomware solutions to the interplay between cybersecurity and international conflicts. AWRIS 2025 served as a vibrant academic forum, featuring 10 student groups from different countries presenting research on AI, IoT, computer vision, cloud computing, and information security, highlighting the pioneering role of students in innovation. Meanwhile, APISI 2025 made a strong impression with diverse innovative startup ideas, from security technology, AI in education, sign language translation, smart language learning platforms, to medical solutions, physical therapy and smart logistics, demonstrating the creativity and aspiration for international integration of the young generation.

The First Prize of AWRIS 2025 was awarded to the project “Hybrid AI Approaches for Abusive Website Detection.”

At APISI 2025, the First Prize was awarded to the Zentab team for their project entitled “Your Ultimate Multi-Account Command Center.”

At the close of the programs, the Organizing Committee honored the participating students with awards for their efforts and achievements. AWRIS 2025 awarded the First Prize to the VKU student group, the Second Prize to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the Third Prize to the Vietnam Academy of Cryptography Technology, along with seven Encouragement Prizes for other participating teams. Meanwhile, APISI 2025 honored the Phenikaa University student group with the First Prize, VKU with the Second Prize, HUST and CICT with two Third Prizes, and four Encouragement Prizes for other teams, thereby affirming the practical value and feasibility of many startup ideas presented.

Speaking at the general closing ceremony, Dr. Tran The Son – VKU’s Vice Rector emphasized: “The three consecutive international events over the past days not only demonstrated VKU’s strong spirit of integration, but also reaffirmed its role as a hub for connecting knowledge, research, and innovation in the region. The success of Summer School, AWRIS, and APISI 2025 will serve as a driving force for VKU to continue accompanying the ACIR student community and international partners, nurturing aspirations for innovation and entrepreneurship, and contributing to the sustainable development of the region and the world”.

Through a series of international activities in academia, research, and entrepreneurship, VKU once again affirms its pioneering role in shaping an innovation ecosystem. Together with the ACIR community, the university creates an open academic space where knowledge and creativity are shared, making VKU a meeting place for domestic, regional, and international students on their journey toward sustainable development.
