VKU Affirms Its Pioneering Role as Host of the Central Region Round of the 31st National Youth Informatics Competition – 2025

On the morning of June 29, 2025, Vietnam–Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, proudly hosted the Central Region Round of the 31st National Youth Informatics Competition – 2025. This annual nationwide event is co-organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Vietnam Association for Information Processing. The competition aims to concretize the Party and State’s policies on promoting digital transformation and developing a knowledge-based economy. It also seeks to spark passion and encourage learning and creativity among children and young people through digital technology. As one of the largest academic playgrounds in Vietnam, the competition serves as a cradle for discovering and nurturing young talents in the field of information technology across the country.

Attending the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union were Mr. Tran Huu – Director of the Center for Science, Technology and Young Talent Development, and Mr. Nguyen Sy Vinh – Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Center for Science, Technology and Young Talent Development. Representing VKU – the host institution – were Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, Vice Rector of the university, along with leaders of various departments and faculties. From the authorities of Da Nang City, Mr. Pham Tan Ngoc Thuy – Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, and Mr. Lê Công Hùng – Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union were present. The event saw the participation of over 1,100 attendees, including nearly 800 contestants from provinces and cities across the Central and Central Highlands regions.

In his remarks, Mr. Tran Huu, director of the Center for Science, Technology and Young Talent Development under the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, expressed his sincere gratitude for the support and collaboration of VKU in hosting this year’s competition. He congratulated the 769 outstanding contestants participating in the Central Region Round. The 31st National Youth Informatics Competition – 2025 has undergone several innovations to better align with the rapidly evolving landscape of science, technology, and innovation. Notably, 100% of contestants completed online registration, and a total of 2,304 participants qualified for the regional rounds — an increase of nearly 30% compared to 2024 — held at three locations: Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. This significant rise demonstrates the growing interest and attention from the community toward the competition.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, Vice Rector of VKU, expressed his pride and honor that VKU was selected to host such a meaningful academic playground as the National Youth Informatics Competition. He emphasized that VKU is proud to be a leading university in training and conducting in-depth research in Information Technology and other key strategic fields such as Semiconductor Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Financial Technology (Fintech). The university currently has a student body of over 7,000 and a team of nearly 300 faculty and staff, including more than 70 PhDs and Associate Professors. Notably, 100% of lecturers hold a Master’s degree or higher and were professionally trained in advanced countries worldwide. VKU also frequently hosts major academic events such as the Central–Highlands Informatics Olympiad, Cybersecurity Competition, the “Danang AI for Life” Artificial Intelligence Competition, the Vietnamese Olympiad in Informatics Community (VNNOI), and IT Summer and Winter Camps for gifted high school students in the region. These initiatives are strong evidence of VKU’s commitment to being an ideal academic environment for nurturing young tech talents.Dr. Thọ affirmed “VKU is committed to providing the best possible conditions for contestants to fully showcase their abilities and ignite their passion for learning and creativity in the field of science and technology.”

As a leading public university in the fields of digital technology and digital economy in Vietnam, VKU has reaffirmed its capacity to organize large-scale academic events with depth and professionalism. For this year’s regional round, the university invested comprehensively and meticulously in its preparation. This included equipping 400 desktop computers fully installed with specialized software in compliance with technical requirements from the Organizing Committee; arranging 20 standard exam rooms, including programming labs, algorithmic thinking spaces, and areas for showcasing and evaluating creative products. Nearly 50 staff, faculty members, and students with strong expertise and experience in IT competitions were mobilized to support both technical and logistical operations. In addition, the university ensured modern facilities and optimal conditions to accommodate over 1,000 attendees, including 800 contestants from provinces and cities across the Central and Central Highlands regions.

At the Central Region Round, contestants will compete in a variety of categories, including algorithmic programming, creative IT products, and mathematical–algorithmic thinking across divisions A, B, C1, C2, D1, D2, M1, M2, and M3 — covering primary, lower secondary, upper secondary, and specialized high schools. Notably, the creative product category stands out as a highlight, aiming to encourage students’ ability to apply technology to real-life situations.

With comprehensive investment, the dedicated support of the organizing team, and VKU’s modern and specialized academic environment, the 31st National Youth Informatics Competition – 2025 is expected to serve as a launchpad for many young talents in the field of information technology, contributing to the development of high-quality digital human resources for the country’s future.
