VKU acknowledges and expresses gratitude to KOICA Vietnam for its companionship, collaboration, and significant contributions to the development of the university
On the morning of November 26, 2024, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, held a ceremony to present Certificates of Commendation from the Rector to KOICA Vietnam and four outstanding individuals. This recognition highlights and honors their significant contributions to the university’s collaboration and development efforts over the past period.
An overview of the Certificate of Appreciation Ceremony
Attending the ceremony, representing KOICA Vietnam, were Ms. Kim Na Rae – Deputy Director; Ms. Ryu Nuri – Development Cooperation Coordinator; and Ms. Pham My Linh – Senior Expert. On behalf of VKU, attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Chairman of the School Council; along with leaders from various departments, faculties, and centers of the university.

In his congratulatory speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU, expressed heartfelt gratitude and acknowledged the significant contributions of the leadership and members of KOICA Vietnam over the years. He especially recognized Mr. Lee Byung Hwa, Country Director, and Ms. Kim Na Rae, Deputy Country Director, for their continuous support and companionship with VKU in its development process, particularly in 2024.
Over the years, KOICA Vietnam has partnered with VKU in numerous meaningful programs, not only enhancing training capacity but also significantly contributing to the university’s innovation and international integration.
As a strategic bridge, KOICA Vietnam has collaborated on numerous key projects at VKU, most notably the Project for Strengthening Academic Development of VKU with regard to ICT Education, Research and Governance for the 2022–2027 period, funded with $7.7 million in non-refundable ODA from the Government of Korea. This project has driven significant breakthroughs, including the establishment of a Research and Innovation Space, the founding of the Institute of Digital Science and Technology (eSTI), and the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH). These initiatives have laid a crucial foundation for VKU to advance research and specialized training in high-tech fields.
Moreover, KOICA Vietnam has fostered connections between VKU and organizations, enterprises, and universities in Korea to expand opportunities for international collaboration. Notable contributions include sponsoring the 12th (2023) and 13th (2024) International Conference on Information Technology and Its Applications (CITA), which attracted numerous renowned international scientists; supporting the organization of the inaugural ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR) Forum in Vietnam in July 2023, serving as an important bridge for leaders and scholars across Southeast Asia to promote scientific research and innovation; and facilitating Visang Vietnam’s sponsorship of the KLASS Smart Korean Language Classroom.
In addition, KOICA Vietnam has organized numerous meaningful volunteer activities, creating opportunities for cultural and academic exchanges between students from Korean universities (Yonsei University, Yeungnam University, Soongsil University, Sungkonghoe University, Hoseo University) and VKU. Furthermore, it has supported academic exchange programs for VKU faculty and students with universities in Southeast Asia, fostering regional and international integration.
