On May 9, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Da Nang University attended the Workshop titled as “Artificial Intelligence – A New driving force for Da Nang’s development” organized by the People’s Committee of Da Nang City. This is an important event to realize Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW issued on December 22, 2024 of the Political Bureau regarding breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The workshop is a chance for many domestic and international experts, managers, and businesses to meet each other, come up with AI development strategies suitable to local practical conditions, promote startups, and apply AI in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and public services.

At the roundtable discussion with the theme “Da Nang – a potential destination for AI startups”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU, which plays the role of a key university training information technology and artificial intelligence in Da Nang, shared his viewpoints from the perspective of VKU as a training unit, incubator, developer and provider of high-quality AI human resources, and a proactive contributor to the implementation of the city’s and country’s development strategies in the digital age. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap highly appreciated the strong development potential of Da Nang: “Da Nang is a worth-living dynamic city, and is making strong progress in its development strategy based on technology and knowledge. The merger between Da Nang city and Quang Nam province in the near future will turn Da Nang city into the largest municipal city in terms of geographical size in the country and open up huge opportunities. In 2024, Da Nang pioneered the training of high-quality human resources in semiconductors and artificial intelligence, along with numerous preferential policies for experts and learners in the fields approved by the People’s Committee of the city. It can be said that Da Nang has had a distinct transformation, standing out in the Central region, and developing in line with the Northern and Southern central areas of the country. Currently, the city is home to 20 universities, with many educational institutions training high-quality information technology human resources, of which Da Nang University has training facilities in Semiconductors and Artificial Intelligence, creating a solid foundation to facilitate the development of an innovation and AI ecosystem in the Central region”.

On behalf of VKU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap also shared: VKU is a specialized training unit in the fields of information technology, communications, and digital economy. With the goal of becoming a training and research center at the regional level, VKU is recruiting excellent students with high admission scores of at least 8 points. With a current population of nearly 7,000 digital technology and application students, including 1,200 students majoring in Artificial Intelligence, VKU aims at providing human resources not only for the domestic market but also for the global labor market, focusing on the approach of training high-quality human resources clearly manifested in the 4 aspects as followed:

1. Modern training program: Not only equipping students with specialized knowledge about AI but also integrating modules on human sciences and AI ethics, aiming to create socially responsible AI engineers.
2. Advanced teaching methods: VKU puts a priority on improving lecturers’ capacity and enhancing students’ self-study and critical thinking skills which are core factors to adapt in an ever-changing technological environment.
3. Learner support ecosystem: VKU’s students experience a variety of learning – research – startup activities which help them comprehensively develop skills instead of just acquiring theory in class.
4. Modern infrastructure and business connectivity: from the Korean Government’s ODA project valued at 7.7 million USD, the university has spent most of it to deploy a startup center with the area of 1,500 square meters to create a space for practice, research, and direct cooperation between students and businesses right on the campus.
