—————————-
First of all, I would like to extend my greetings and best wishes to the Board of Directors, distinguished guests, teachers, parents, and all the new graduates who are present in this hall today.
My name is Pham Vu Thu Nguyet, a student of the Computer Science – Information Technology class of 2019. Standing here today, I would like to say a few words, not as a valedictorian, not as the most outstanding or most accomplished person, but simply as a student – someone who has truly lived the most wonderful moments of my youth and has been given the opportunity to express my very real feelings at this grand ceremony.
New Information Technology Engineer – Pham Vu Thu Nguyet speaks at the 2024 Graduation Ceremony
Dear parents, dear teachers.
Today, in this hall, we are officially engineers / graduates. We are only 23 years old, but in that time, we have had 5 years walking in the hope of our parents and maturing under the care of our teachers at VKU.
For us, it is not just 5 years, but more than 1600 days, nearly 40,000 hours, of our parents’ hard work. We would like to thank our parents for never putting pressure on our shoulders, but only silently supporting us to pursue our own dreams, only wanting us to be healthy and happy with the path we have chosen. Thanks to our families for always being a strong support, helping us know how to love with all the forgiveness and tolerance as we have received.
We are very grateful to our teachers, who have always loved and accompanied us like second parents throughout our years away from home. There is a saying: “A good seed cannot germinate on a tin roof”. So, it can be said that VKU is a good land, a good environment with all the necessary conditions for us, the seeds – good or not yet good – to develop, mature, and create the best version of ourselves. At VKU, we are not only taught knowledge and experience, but also, from our teachers, we feel the “passion” for the profession, so that in the future we will become researchers, scientists, engineers, and businessmen full of enthusiasm for everything we do. With our teachers accompanying us, we are allowed to make mistakes and learn from our mistakes. We learn to be more mature, more humble, and more calm. We learn to be more independent in our own ideas and dreams, to persevere in honing ourselves, and to learn to believe in our own abilities to be ready to fight to the last minute for that dream.
Happiness for us is the journey. And on that journey, whether as a child of the family or a citizen of society, in every step we have, are, and will always choose the kindest actions. Once again, we – the graduates of class 2019 – would like to express our gratitude to our teachers and parents.
We would like to thank the representatives of the enterprises who have taken the time to attend today’s ceremony. During our studies at school, we have participated in many cooperation programs with businesses. As a result, we have the opportunity to learn practical
experience, soft skills and know how to apply the knowledge learned to practice. We are truly grateful to you.
Finally, through many journeys, I realize that there is one relationship that always needs special attention – above all other relationships – the relationship with oneself.
New Engineer in Information Technology – Pham Vu Thu Nguyet, representing the New Engineers/Bachelors of the class of 2019, presented flowers to express gratitude to the Teachers
Dear students!
During this period, I believe that everyone is confused and pressured, when we have just graduated, our career has just begun. Looking up, we are not mature and successful enough like our seniors; But looking down, we have lost some of the naive enthusiasm of our-18-years-old. Everywhere you look, you feel inferior, everywhere you look, you see others surpassing us by far. There are 2 questions that I often spend time talking to myself: “What have I done? And what am I doing”. These two questions are like reminders for me to fully realize my own thoughts and actions, as well as their impact on my life and the lives of others. As we stand at a major milestone in our lives, I hope today is a good opportunity for us to answer these two questions together.
What have we done in the past 5 years?
First, we have been nurtured with the minds of liberal thinkers right here. I guess most of us have had a traditional education in high school, where our only task was to memorize and recite. And then we came to VKU, where we were allowed to liberate our brains and unlearn everything again. We began to learn to look at the world not just from one perspective, but from many aspects and interdisciplinary perspectives. We began to learn to ask basic questions such as “What is good?”, “What is ethics?”,… We began to see the world in the way it-could-be, instead of the way it-is, and became independent thinkers. It is very important for us to become independent thinkers, because great thoughts are the foundation for great actions. I believe that the minds of liberal thinkers that we have together fostered, built and implemented here will be the foundation for any big dream we have in the future.
Second, we have built the resilience of a warrior. For nearly 5 years, in addition to studying, we have also participated in competitions, conducted research, interned, and run social projects,… We have done almost everything possible to develop our professional skills and soft skills, to prepare well to become a positive and useful part of society. And then everything was turned upside down by the COVID19 pandemic. We were confused, exhausted by the countless waves of change in the job market. And even some of us had thoughts of giving up. But our presence here today is the strongest testament to the fact that we have persevered to the end, and at least, we have conquered ourselves. And that is the spirit of the warriors.
Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Principal of the School awarded the diploma to new Engineer Pham Vu Thu Nguyet
So, what are we doing now?
Leaving the gates of this university is not, for us, the end point of a race with a prize for the winner being a prestigious degree, a stable office job with a dream salary, but it will be the door that opens to a new future. That future is the individual paths that we must forge on our own, carrying with us the seeds that our families, teachers, and we ourselves have cultivated together.
With liberal minds and resilience, we will be the most vivid examples of what a modern liberal education can bring to society. We are expected to become pioneers and leaders in our fields of expertise. But always remember, we can be pioneers, but we are not the best, and never will be. We will continue to learn, we will never stop experiencing and challenging ourselves, we will live kindly from the smallest things, to gradually affirm ourselves.
Einstein once said: “Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted”. He also said: “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value”. So, no matter which path you choose, long or short, pioneering or hidden, passionate or calm, the important thing is that we must create a meaningful life that belongs to us.
We are the new generation, the new seedlings, the first bricks contributing to building the VKU foundation of today and tomorrow; We are the continuation of good values, people who carry in their hearts aspirations to turn them into actions – helping people, helping life, using our talents to alleviate the suffering in society, making this world a better place. With each passing generation, the definition of social justice is expanded. The previous generation fought for independence and freedom, civil rights and voting rights, and now it’s time for our generation to establish a new definition for the “social contract”. We can be the generation that creates a society where progress is not measured by economic indicators like average income, GDP per capita, etc., but by the fact that everyone in that society finds and lives by their own values.
I always have a belief that: Big things have small beginnings. Be meticulous in every small thing, the big thing will naturally come true. Taking care of, loving, and understanding yourself is the small thing. When you yourself are peaceful and happy, then that is the time when you can cultivate, protect, bring happiness and peace to those you love, and bring the most real values to society. I wish you all the confidence and strength you need, with firm determination to overcome the bumpy roads ahead to climb to your own peak of glory.
The world is round, the paths will eventually converge. See you again! Then, I hope each of us will have achievements in hand, passion in heart, determination in eye, and a smile on your lips.
Once again, I would like to thank everyone. I wish all of you good health and faith, and have many peaceful and meaningful days in the rest of your life.
