Professor Herwig Unger (Germany) taught and inspired research in the field of artificial intelligence at VKU

Based on the results of the visit and work of the university’s Rector at King Mongkut’s University of North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand, from March 4 to March 8, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang was honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Herwig Unger from FernUniversität in Hagen (Germany) to work and share knowledge to bring opportunities to access advanced research trends in the field of artificial intelligence, contributing to expanding scientific cooperation between VKU and international partners.

Working session with the university’s leaders

Immediately after arriving in Danang, Prof. Dr. Herwig Unger had a working session with the university’s leaders to discuss opportunities for research and education cooperation. He also met with experts on scientific funding to discuss financial solutions to support joint projects, contributing to promoting research and technology application at VKU. In particular, the biggest highlight of this visit was the series of seminars and intensive classes that the professor directly instructed, bringing many academic and practical values to lecturers, graduate and undergraduate students at VKU.

Workshop on “AI Teaching Platform”

At the workshop on “AI Teaching Platform”, Prof. Dr. Herwig Unger introduced a pioneering project that he and his international colleagues are developing, related to the development of AI virtual assistants in teaching. He presented how to apply ChatGPT and related AI systems to improve learning efficiency, and discussed with VKU lecturers the opportunities and challenges when integrating this technology into higher education. What’s more, he directly guided graduate students on research methods and scientific publications, helping them master the process of conducting a systematic research and improving the ability to publish internationally in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence.

Workshop on “Artificial Emotions in AI”

One of the most popular contents in the event series was the workshop on “Artificial Emotions in AI”. This is a highly interdisciplinary topic, not only in the field of information technology but also closely related to psychology, neuroscience and education. The professor presented the latest advances in emotional AI, opening up many potential research directions for VKU students and lecturers in related fields. In addition, he also spent time instructing classes for master’s and global program students, where students presented their research orientations. With his extensive experience, he has provided in-depth advice, helping students approach modern research trends, and at the same time reorienting research topics according to international standards.
