Permanent Deputy Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh worked with Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology to deploy Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design and AI training programs.
On the afternoon of November 24, 2023, the delegation of Da Nang People’s Committee led by Mr. Ho Ky Minh – Member of the Standing Board of Da Nang Municipal Party Committee, Permanent Deputy Chairman, along with Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh – Director, Department of Information and Communications, Mr. Doan Ngoc Chung – Director, Vietnam Bank for Social Policies – Da Nang Branch and business representatives including PhD. Nguyen Thanh Lam – Director of Synopsys South Asia, Ms. Mai Thi Nhu – Business Development Manager of Intel Corporation in Vietnam had a working session with Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Da Nang University with the aim to deploy the Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design (IC Design) and AI training programs at VKU in the coming time.

On the VKU side, there was Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, along with leaders of functional departments, faculties and centers.
At the meeting, Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap – VKU Rector reported to the City’s Leaders on VKU’s recent achievements as well as development orientations and plans for training in the field of semiconductor integrated circuit design and AI with key highlights such as: VKU has 2023 admission scores for all 14 majors/minors ranging from 24 to 26 points, is among the top universities in the Central-Central Highlands and the whole country with the student population of nearly 6,000 and aims to reach 8,000-10,000 undergraduate and graduate students by 2025. The current teaching staff has over 250 people, including nearly 60 doctors and associate professors, accounting for nearly 41%. This is a significantly higher figure than the national average rate (30%). In addition, VKU has focused on connecting and building a network of over 200 strategic partners including domestic and international organizations and businesses who have participated in the process of training, recruiting, sponsoring, and implementing cooperative training programs, namely bilingual global programs in English, Japanese, Korean with NiX Education, FSoft, Evvo Labs,…. VKU has also carried out plenty of academic activities and playgrounds, international academic-cultural exchange programs, practical projects, internships, business cooperation, enhancement of teaching in English, and especially 100% of students’ graduation theses are required to write/present in English. Furthermore, VKU has been ready with resources of lecturers, students, training programs, facilities, infrastructure, and equipment, which focuses on the following fields:
- As for Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design training, VKU is the first university in the Central region that has just launched a plan of enrollment and training in this field with an expected enrollment capacity of about 500 students during the 2024 – 2027 period and transferring 180 students from closely related majors into Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design. VKU has cooperated with the Institute of Information Technology (VNU Hanoi) and Institute of System Integration (Le Quy Don Technology University) to provide training; Cooperated with Nam Long Technology Investment Group to deploy a new technology experimental and research LAB with a total investment of 25 billion VND in the fields of IC Design, IoT, GIS, Cloud, Robotics and 5G; Collaborated with FPT Software Central Region Company in recruitment and internships for students majoring in Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Design (IC Design) at VKU. Apart from training in IC Design, VKU will also provide “Accelerator” courses and workshops in coordination with businesses and plan to enroll 60-100 students every year.
- With regard to AI training, VKU has developed Data Science and Artificial Intelligence minor (2021) into Artificial Intelligence major (2023) with more than 300 students currently studying at the school and nearly 30 doctors participating in the teaching process.

Being a university specialized in information technology, communications and digital economy, VKU hoped that Da Nang People’s Committee leaders would pay attention to investing in universities (including VKU) and have many policies to support scholarships and dormitory accommodation to attract students, lecturers, and leading experts in Semiconductor Integrated Circuit and AI to study and work in the city; Build the IC Design & AI Training – Research – Application Center open to universities and businesses in the city; Connect universities with IC and AI businesses with the goal of bringing students opportunities to do internships at businesses.

Through exchanges and discussions among the delegation of Da Nang People’s Committee, representatives of businesses and the school’s leaders, Permanent Deputy Chairman highly appreciated the role and position of the school in IT human resource training for the city, and at the same time acknowledged VKU’s propositions and suggested that VKU should strengthen connections with Korean ICT enterprises, especially enterprises operating in the field of Semiconductor Integrated Circuit to boost human resource training; Coordinate with Synopsys and Intel to quickly receive copyrighted software related to semiconductor IC training; Integrate a number of AI modules into existing programs to speed up the training process; Appoint 2 AI lecturers and/or experts to participate in the city’s IC Design & AI Training – Research – Application Center. Regarding the city, the leaders will propose specific policies so that universities and businesses can access, exploit and use facilities belonging to public assets and simultaneously research and implement policies to support finance and accommodation for students, lecturers and leading experts in the field of IC and AI.
At the end of the working session, Associate Professor, PhD. Huynh Cong Phap expressed his hope to continue to receive close attention and direction from the leaders of Da Nang People’s Committee and affirmed that VKU would proceed to push their potential and strengths in training, research and concurrently advance towards Da Nang City’s orientation.
