Forum for Meeting and Networking Leaders and Scientists from Southeast Asia and International Communities (ACIR+ 2024) to Enhance Training Quality, Innovation, and Scientific Research
On the afternoon of July 18, 2024, as part of the 13th CITA 2024, the 2nd ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR+) is going to be organized in the beautiful city of Danang by the University of Danang, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), in collaboration with ACIR and FISU Vietnam. The forum aims to enhance training quality, foster innovation, and promote scientific research.
Overview of the forum
Attending ACIR+, from the organizing units are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU and Head of the Organizing Committee; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, President of the Vietnam Association for Information Processing and President of FISU Vietnam, Co-Head of the Organizing Committee.
On the side of international scientists, notable attendees include Prof. DSc. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh (Poland), Assoc. Prof. PhD. Le Khac Nhien An (Ireland), Prof. PhD. Kang-Hyun Jo (Korea), Prof. Christian Boitet (France), Prof. Vossen Gottfried (Germany), Prof. Franck Leprevost (Luxembourg), Prof. Lee Sunwoo (Korea).
From various associations and higher education institutions in Vietnam and internationally, attendees include Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, President of the University of Danang; Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn, Vice President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand); Dr. Nguyen Long, Secretary General of the Vietnam Informatics Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thu Lam, Secretary General of FISU Vietnam; Dr. Doan Quang Hoan, Secretary General of the Radio and Electronics Association of Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Bac, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information and Communications (MIC); Prof. Dr. Nam Goong-Young, Director of the National Human Resources Development Institute, Korea; Assoc. In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Head of the Organizing Committee and Rector of VKU, warmly welcomes scientists, leaders of associations, higher education institutions both domestically and internationally, and leaders of ACIR members to ACIR+ 2024. He particularly welcomes the delegation from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand), led by Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn, Vice President. The “ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research – ACIR” forum, initiated by VKU in 2023, has been highly regarded by the scientific community and universities in Southeast Asia, with active support from KOICA, and scientists from the UK, Poland, Korea, Ireland, and other countries. This initiative is an important step to promote cooperation, enhance training quality, foster innovation, and advance scientific research in the region. ACIR+ will embrace new ideas for organizing future CITA conferences, starting in 2025, to be held alternately at ACIR community universities; enhance cooperation in training, scientific research, and organize various collaborative activities between ACIR and FISU Vietnam.
Over the past year, numerous activities for academic exchange and scientific research among ACIR members have taken place, including successfully organizing five international conferences: CITA 2023, ATC 2023 (hosted by VKU), ICTA 2023 (hosted by ICTU), ISDS 2023 (hosted by CTU), and WEFAB 2023 (hosted by Phenikaa). VKU and Phenikaa collaborated on the “Enhancing the Employability of students in the new digital transformation world” project, funded by the British Council. VKU and ITI jointly organized semiconductor chip design training courses for lecturers and students in Da Nang. VKU also initiated and collaborated with ACIR to host the first ACIR+ Workshop of Research and Innovation for Students (AWRIS 2024). Additionally, VKU actively cooperated with KMUTNB (Thailand) to carry out various academic exchange activities for lecturers and students with numerous engaging programs.

At the ACIR+ 2024, representatives from seven ACIR members share and discuss ideas for jointly organizing specialized academic conferences in various fields of training. Moreover, delegates listen to the experience-sharing sessions and orientations in innovation and scientific research from leading professors such as Prof. DSc. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh (Poland), Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy (Vietnam), Prof. Dr. Kang-Hyun Jo (Korea), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Khac Nhien An (Ireland), Prof. Christian Boitet (France), Prof. Vossen Gottfried (Germany), Prof. Franck Leprevost (Luxembourg), Prof. Lee Sunwoo (Korea).
With the active participation and contributions of leading experts from various countries and support from international organizations, ACIR+ 2024 has created a meaningful forum for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and new initiatives. This event not only affirms the pioneering role of the University of Danang, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), in promoting innovation and enhancing training quality but also showcases the spirit of solidarity, connection, and cooperation within the regional and international academic community. The academic exchange and scientific research cooperation activities among ACIR members and internationally have yielded positive results, opening up many sustainable development opportunities for universities and students, contributing to the overall development of education and scientific research in Southeast Asia and globally.
