On the morning of January 24, 2024, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Da Nang University, had a meeting and worked with a delegation from Kitakyushu City (KKJ) and Japanese enterprises to discuss cooperation in research and training of information technology human resources.

During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap warmly welcomed the Japanese delegation to VKU. He emphasized that VKU is committed to its mission and responsibility of training and providing high-quality human resources, conducting scientific research, transferring knowledge and technology, with the goal of becoming a leading university in Vietnam and aspiring to international recognition in the fields of education and research; operates under an advanced management model, embodying a modern and intelligent school. With an advantage in information technology, VKU has over 6,000 students and annually recruits 1,500 new students. This represents a high-quality information technology workforce to meet current labor market demands. Currently, VKU has collaborated with many Japanese partners to organize classes in information technology with enhanced Japanese language training. Among them, the collaboration with NiX Education for the Information Technology Engineer class with enhanced Japanese language has achieved remarkable results, serving as an effective and scalable training model in the future.

During the working session, VKU shared its desire for KKJ to have support policies for scholarships, visas, and accommodation for VKU students, specifically, and Vietnamese students in general when studying abroad and working in KKJ. VKU proposes collaboration to organize forums to promote the labor market and specially research and develop projects to enhance the Japanese language and Japanese culture at VKU or other universities in Vietnam.

For Japanese businesses, VKU hopes that they will directly support VKU students in implementing enhanced Japanese language training, cultural understanding, and work skills. Additionally, VKU seeks the participation of Japanese businesses in introducing VKU students to internships and practical experiences in projects, creating opportunities for students to access the working environment in Japan after graduation.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Morinaga Yasuhiro expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the university’s leadership and also gave an introduction about Kitakyushu City. KKJ currently has many preferential policies to attract foreign labor, including those from Vietnam, to live and work in Japan. It is a livable, green, and modern city with various healthcare policies for its residents, a place for human resources development, many attractive tourist destinations, and notably, one of the least earthquake-prone areas in Japan (with only 4 earthquakes in the last 100 years). KKJ is thriving in industries such as Robotics, Automobile, Environmental, IoT, and hosts numerous factories of world-renowned brands like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toto, ….

Facing the challenge of an aging population, a shortage of labor, especially in IT fields related to supporting and advanced technologies in the future, KKJ recognizes the potential in the workforce of Vietnamese students in general, especially students at VKU. VKU is seen as a place that can effectively meet the demand for high-quality human resources. KKJ expresses the desire to engage in collaborative training and development with VKU to cultivate a high-quality workforce in the coming years. Through this collaboration, KKJ and Japanese businesses aim to connect and promote cooperation, providing job opportunities for many students upon graduation, enabling them to access the Japanese labor market early on.

At the end of the working session, the university leaders warmly welcomed and expressed readiness to expand cooperation, creating the most favorable conditions for Japanese businesses to access and guide training, as well as introducing job opportunities for students.
