On December 15, 2023, at the Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Da Nang University, a ceremony was held to honor students who achieved outstanding results in both national and international competitions in the 2023-2023 academic year.

Attending were Ms. Lê Thị Bích Thuận – Director of Da Nang Department of Education and Training, representatives of the Heads of functional departments within the University of Danang, and representatives from local businesses. On VKU’s side, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huỳnh Công Pháp – University Rector, and leaders of various departments, faculties, and centers, along with all officials, lecturers, and students participating in the event.

In his speech at the ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huỳnh Công Pháp – University Rector, congratulated all the VKU student teams for consistently achieving impressive results in various international and national competitions. Students’ remarkable achievements once again affirmed the reputation and quality of the university’s education with the advanced training programs which approach the technological learning environment, and create opportunities for students to be early immersed in English, Korean, and Japanese language training right from the first and second years.

Building on the outstanding achievements obtained in various aspects of the university’s activities over the past years, during the first half of the 2023-2024 academic school year, VKU students continuously excelled in winning many high prizes in competitions across all fields of scientific research, startups, expertise, algorithms, information security, etc. in both domestic and international events, specifically:

In the scientific research field, there were 6 project groups registered to participate in competitions, in which 1 topic participated in the Science and Technology Award for students from educational institutions under the Ministry of Education and Training, 3 topics attended the Da Nang City Scientific Award for students and 2 topics attended the Universities of Da Nang (UD) Students Scientific Research Award with content focusing on technology and economics. The results are as followed:

01 Second Prize – Science and Technology Award for University Students in 2023, Ministry of Education and Training.

01 First Prize – Da Nang City Student Scientific Research Award for students in 2023.

01 Second Prize – UD Student Research for the 2023-2024 academic school year.

Notably, all those three awards were achieved by the student team consisting of Phạm Vũ Thu Nguyệt, Nguyễn Quang Chung, Hồ Thanh Phong, and Nguyễn Văn Tô Thành (Class 19IT1 – Faculty of Computer Science), under the guidance of Dr. Nguyễn Quang Vũ. Their research projects focused on: (1) “Research and Development of AI Application Solutions for Early Diagnosis: A Comprehensive Approach from Clinical Diagnosis to Paraclinical Diagnosis,” and (2) “Research and Develop an AI Model for Automatic Diagnosis of Malaria through Peripheral Blood Smear Images and the Storage System of Diagnosis Results on the Blockchain Platform and Representative Cryptographic Technologies.”

In Startups and Innovation fields, many student groups have researched startup projects and participated in the Future Innovation Award – VietFuture 2023, and Da Nang Youth Union Technology Startup Contest, with the following results:

01 First Prize for the Mentasoothe project by the student group consists of: Phạm Vũ Thu Nguyệt from class 19IT1 and Nguyễn Quang Chung from class 19IT1.

01 Second Prize for the DaNangNLP Development project, a tool for preprocessing and extracting information in Vietnamese language processing, by the student group consists of: Nguyễn Kết Đoàn, class 20DA, Nguyễn Trần Tiến, class 20SE5, Tôn Thất Rôn and Trương Thế Quốc Dũng, class 21GIT, and Nguyễn Lê Hữu Duy, class 20SE4.

01 Third Prize for the SOUT OUT project, a soon-to-expire e-commerce platform, by the student group consists of: Nguyễn Lê Như Nghĩa, class 21JIT, Nguyễn Đức Sang, class 21MC, Trần Thị Phương, class 21NS, Trần Thị Minh Tâm, class 21SE2, and Lương Thùy Vy, class 21IR.

01 Potential Prize at the 3rd Da Nang Youth Union Technology Startup Contest, 2023

Additionally, at the GBA Business Challenge 2023, organized by the Association of German Businesses in Vietnam, two students, Lê Văn Hùng and Nguyễn Hoàng Huy (20CE) – Department of Computer Engineering and Electronics (VKU), teamed up with students from DUE to successfully implement the AgroWise project. They achieved the Second Prize with a total prize value of 90 million VND.

For both national/international academic competitions, VKU student teams have also achieved remarkable results with numerous awards, including:

• 01 Second Prize (Open Source Software category) at the Vietnam Student Olympiad in Informatics 2023 with the VKU.NewEnergy team composed of Phạm Vũ Thu Nguyệt, class 19IT1, Hồ Thanh Phong, class 19IT1, and Lê Kim Hoàng Trung, class 21GIT.
• 02 Second Prizes (IT Specialized) by student Nguyễn Trần Huy Vũ (22IT1), Võ Thanh Phong (22GIT1), and 01 Third Prize (IT Specialized) by student Hồ Minh Phi (21IT1) at the 32nd Vietnam Student Olympiad in Informatics.
• 01 First Prize (Central Region round) and 01 Third Prize (National round) at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2023 by the VKU.FriendshipPower team consisting of Lê Tăng Phú Quý (22GIT2), Nguyễn Trần Huy Vũ (22IT1), and Võ Thanh Phong (22GIT1).
• 01 Third Prize at the Practical Cybersecurity Incident Response Exercise in the Central Highlands – Central Region in Da Nang by the VKU.Alliance Redteam, including Lê Quang Long, Lê Thị Khánh Dung (20NS), Phạm Minh Trí (21SE1), Phan Thanh Tuấn (21NS), and Võ Văn Bảo (22NS).

In addition to the outstanding achievements of students, there are the silent, responsible, and dedicated contributions of the teachers who support and guide them tirelessly. On this occasion, the university has awarded tokens of appreciation to honor the dedication and contribution of the following teachers: Dr. Nguyễn Quang Vũ, Dr. Đặng Quang Hiển, Dr. Nguyễn Sĩ Thìn, Dr. Nguyễn Thu Hương, MA. Đinh Nguyễn Khánh Phương.

Achieving numerous awards in major competitions is a pride and an admirable accomplishment for any university. However, for VKU, this is even more significant and remarkable because VKU has not yet established many traditions, experiences, and a large student community to lead the way. Today’s achievements furthermore demonstrate the university’s education quality, determination, effort, and dedication of the faculties and students of the university on the journey to become a leading university in Vietnam benchmarked with international standards in order to realize the Dream of the Central Region, which is to establish a high-quality university that meets international standards, so that Central Region students no longer have to go far to seek education and to make a living.  By providing high-quality technological human resources, VKU aims at attracting and developing many large enterprises, as well as creating numerous job opportunities for the students of the Central Region who are then expected to return and contribute to the prosperity of the Central Region.

Once again, VKU congratulates the proudful results, and believes that with more perseverant efforts we can together reach greater heights so that today’s achievements will become successful startup products. Commercialized scientific works with high practical values will be indicators of the reputation, training quality and learning environment of VKU, the only university in the Central Highlands region specializing in information technology, communication, and digital economics.
