On the morning of February 1, 2024, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), The University of Danang held the 1st meeting – 2024 of the Scientific and Education Council (Science and Education) to report VKU’s performance in 2023 and the directions in training, enrollment, science, technology, international cooperation, and innovative startups in 2024.

The meeting was led and attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the University, Chairman of the Scientific and Education Council and the Council’s members.

At the meeting, the report on the results of the tasks done in 2023 was presented to the Scientific and Education Council. In particular, Training was always put in focus and complied with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and The University of Danang. VKU has completed the creation, the opening and the implementation of 4 programs of Communication Technology, Marketing, Information Security, Semiconductor IC Design and Master program of IT; Successfully organized bilingual global programs: English – Vietnamese; Korean – Vietnamese; Japanese – Vietnamese taught by international professors and experts; Successfully accredited 03 training programs (Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Business Administration) according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Successfully organized the 5th Informatics Olympiad in the  Central and Central Highlands.

Regarding enrollment, VKU has organized direct admission consulting groups in 14 provinces/cities in the Central and Central Highlands region; VKU Campus Tour 2023 Festival to promote the image and give consulting to students about the university’s environment and future career orientation; The university’s enrollment quality in 2023 increases, with an average admission score of 24 points/3 subjects. The quality of the university’s students is also upgraded. The proportion of students with fair or higher academic performance is about 60% of the total number of students in the university; The Admissions Project has been planned early, with the supplement of direct admission groups (separate admissions) in accordance with the actual situation and orientation of the University.

In the field of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, many outstanding activities have been successfully implemented. VKU has chaired and coordinated with many prestigious partners, professors and scientists in the country and the world to successfully organize the CITA 2023 International Scientific Conference and will organize the CITA 2024 International Scientific Conference in July 2024. CITA conference proceedings appear in Lecture Notes of Network and Systems, Springer Publishing House, and are cited in DBLP, Scopus, Web of Science; has proposed initiatives and successfully chaired the construction of the Community Connection and Development Forum “Asean Consortium for Innovation and Research – ACIR”; has signed cooperation agreements with many domestic and foreign units to jointly propose, develop and implement scientific and applied research. In addition, VKU is implementing co-mentoring programs and granting scholarships for doctoral and postdoctoral students with the Institute of Information Technology (Hanoi National University) and the Institute of Information Technology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology); Strengthening connections and work closely with the Korean Embassy in Vietnam, KOICA Vietnam National Office, and the Korean ODA project implementation consulting unit (PMC) to gradually carry out the project successfully and further specify plans and proposals to further develop VKU in the coming time; Coordinating with domestic and international partners to build, register and implement international cooperation projects: ASEAN-IVO; ecological transition management at universities in Vietnam and Laos towards comprehensive and sustainable development (Erasmus+ 2022-2027); Projects funded by BC; CFK project (Korea); Global E-school project (Korea Foundation);…

In 2023, VKU’s students have excellently obtained high achievements at International and National Competitions in many aspects: Scientific Research, Start up – Innovation, Academics such as 01 Second Prize – Award on Science and Technology for students in higher education institutions in 2023 at the Ministry of Education and Training level; 01 First Prize – Award on Scientific Research for Students by Da Nang City in 2023; 01 Second Prize – Award on Scientific Research for Students by Da Nang City for the 2022-2023 academic year; First Prize + Second Prize + Third Prize + Award of Bussiness’s orders belonging to the Future Creativity Award – VietFuture 2023 (National Level); Second Prize at the Business Challenge – GBA Business Challenge 2023 (International Scale); 01 Potential prize at the 3rd Technology Startup Contest among students by UD Youth Union in 2023; …

At the meeting, the members of the  Scientific and Education Council spent time discussing and collecting opinions on 3 Master’s training programs in IT in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and The University of Da Nang.

Beside the high appreciation toward the achievements, members of the  Scientific and Education Council advised on plans, proposals, and made new recommendations and solutions to the improvement of the quality of the University in the coming years, continued to build and promote activities based on the actual situation and orientation of the University, promoted the implementation of key tasks in training, science and technology as well as international cooperation.

Receiving comments at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Chairman of VKU’s the  Scientific and Education Council respectfully thanked and affirmed that the members’ comments were completely reasonable and consistent with VKU’s direction to become the country’s leading application-oriented university in information technology, communications, digital economy and related fields according to the model of an advanced management system, a modern and smart university.
