In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – the Rector of VKU warmly welcomed the city leaders, representatives from the United States, Japan, and Republic of Korea Consulates, as well as leaders who attended the event. He shared: “VKU with the mission of a leading and key public university providing high-tech human resources for the whole country and Da Nang city, VKU continues to clearly affirm its awareness of responsibility and mission for human resource training and semiconductor IC technology research for the country and for the world”.

Accordingly, VKU has been actively implementing various activities, pioneering in completing procedures, and announcing admissions for the Semiconductor Design Engineer program in 2024, with a total expected training target of 600 – 1,000 engineers by 2028. Additionally, VKU has adjusted its training programs for related fields, including adding a semiconductor orientation to train students from the first year (2023 cohort) to the third year (2021 cohort) to promptly meet the urgent need for human resources in this field. Furthermore, VKU has initiated a master’s training program and developed a research group on semiconductor design. VKU has also established plans to train personnel in semiconductor packaging and testing. Admissions have been opened for upskilling classes for students, and efforts have been made to develop and train the teaching staff. VKU has also completed the construction of the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (SSTH) and the Laboratory for New Technology and Semiconductor Research in collaboration with Nam Long Group.

On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, Ms. Susan Burn – Consul General of the United States in Ho Chi Minh City spoke at the event

Susan Burns, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, extended congratulations to VKU, Da Nang City, and Synopsys for implementing the training program for lecturers in artificial intelligence and semiconductors. This program demonstrates a commitment to strengthening cooperation between the government, private businesses, and universities to develop high-tech talents in Vietnam.

On behalf of Da Nang city’s leadership, Mr. Ho Ky Minh – Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, delivered a speech

Speaking at the event, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee – Mr. Ho Ky Minh spoke highly of the collaboration between the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Training (DSAC), the VKU, Synopsys Group and the Information Technology Institute under the Vietnam National University in promptly deploying the city’s first IC circuit design instructor training course. In the future, Da Nang City will continue to enhance cooperation with various domestic and international partners to implement further training courses for lecturers and semiconductor workforce in the city. Moreover, the city will send lecturers to study and conduct research directly at international training facilities.

The first batch of lecturer training at the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH)

In 2024, the city will focus on training the first batch of lecturers in collaboration with Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), the Da Nang Semiconductor Design and Artificial Intelligence Training Center (DSAC), and the accompanying support from Synopsys Vietnam with genuine software copyrights. The first lecturer training course will consist of 24 participants selected from universities within the city, including the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, the University of Science and Technology, the University of Education (Da Nang University), Duy Tan University, and FPT University. The training program will span over 6 months, comprising 3 months (171 hours) of theoretical study and 3 months of project-based training with 4 modules covering Very-large-scale integration Design (VLSI design), Digital Design and Hardware Description Languages (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL), Basic Digital Integrated Circuit Implementation, and Basic Analog Circuit Design.
The highlight of the program lies in providing the participants with full access to Synopsys’s library and teaching materials. When completing the training, students can build a practical IC design curriculum to be ready to deploy training at universities in Da Nang. This is the biggest expectation in implementing the semiconductor workforce training program in Da Nang City, contributing to the training of human resources not only in Da Nang City but also in Vietnam in the field of semiconductor sector. This aims to meet the demands of the future development of the electronics and semiconductor industry, thereby fostering the growth of these sectors in the long term.

The short-term training course on semiconductor circuit design for juniors and seniors

At the same time, VKU will implement a short-term training course on semiconductor circuit design for juniors and seniors who are currently studying majors such as computer engineering, technology, embedded systems and IoT, and technology information. The course will run from March 2024 to September 2024.
