Bilingual Japanese-Vietnamese Information Technology Engineering Program at VKU: A local study abroad model opening career opportunities in Japan

The Japanese-Vietnamese bilingual Information Technology (IT) Engineering Program (JIT) at Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, in collaboration with NiX Education, has achieved remarkable success. The program affirms its pioneering training quality and effectiveness in connecting students with employment opportunities at Japanese companies. After just over three years of implementation, the program has demonstrated high rates of internships and employment, stable income during the study period, and the possibility of securing full-time positions in Japan upon graduation.

G-JIT Class

The program’s outstanding success is clearly reflected in impressive figures. Currently, 16 students from cohorts K21 and K22 at VKU are participating in remote internships with Japanese companies, earning an average monthly income of VND 10 to 15 million. This not only offers students the chance to gain valuable experience but also helps them relieve financial pressure while still in school. Notably, three students from K21 course have passed rigorous selection rounds to intern for one year at IMPL Japan, receiving up to VND 200 million in support per student – a strong stepping stone toward becoming full-time employees after graduation.

Outstanding VKU students in the Tetote Hackathon 2024

VKU students consistently achieve exceptional results in international academic and technology competitions. In 2024, two students from K21 were honored with the NecScat Award and sponsored with a trip to Japan worth VND 180 million for learning and practical experience. In the same year, a team of five students from K22 won First Prize at the Te-to-te Hackathon – a national programming competition held in Japanese, surpassing over 16 competing teams. These achievements clearly demonstrate the program’s training quality and students’ ability to apply knowledge in an international environment.

With its advanced educational methodology, VKU, in collaboration with NiX Education, provides students with access to Japanese learning and working environments starting from their first year. The program integrates IT and Japanese language training, with a minimum of 600 Japanese language hours over four years, enabling students to achieve N3–N2 proficiency before graduation. In particular, the use of project-based learning (PBL), content and language integrated learning (CLIL), and task-based language teaching (TBLT) helps students simultaneously strengthen their technical skills and improve professional Japanese communication, preparing them to work in Japanese enterprises immediately after graduation.

Japanese enterprises visit and interact with JIT students

The JIT program at VKU also offers students early exposure to real-world working environments. Through strategic partnerships with over 10 major Japanese technology companies – including NecScat, iYell, IMPL, GLD-LAB, DG Feelist, and Withus — VKU students have the opportunity to intern and work directly with Japanese experts. Currently, two Japanese companies have established labs right at VKU, enabling students to work on real-world projects and develop professional work habits aligned with Japanese standards. This is a rare advantage that few universities in Vietnam can offer.

The Bilingual Japanese-Vietnamese IT Engineering Program at VKU is not merely an academic program but also a “local study abroad model” that enables students to enter the Japanese labor market. With high internship and employment rates, stable income during studies, and the opportunity to work in Japan right after graduation, this program has become a groundbreaking educational model unparalleled in Vietnam.

With these outstanding advantages, VKU is affirming its position as a leading university in Japanese-Vietnamese bilingual IT education, equipping students with a solid foundation in technical expertise, foreign language proficiency, and practical skills to confidently join the international labor market.
