Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in VietNam visited and worked at Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology
On the morning of March 21, 2023, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam Oh Young Ju and the delegation visited and worked at the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Da Nang.

Rector – Assoc. Prof. Ph.D. Huynh Cong Phap and the University leaders greatly welcomed the Ambassador and the delegation to visit and work. Speaking at the meeting, the Rector would like to thank the Korean Embassy and KOICA Vietnam for accompanying and supporting VKU over the past time, especially the project “Enhance education – training capacity, management and research of the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology in the period of 2022-2027” worth USD 7.7 million from the non-refundable ODA of the Korean Government through KOICA. VKUs Rector shared: in 2022, marking an important historical milestone celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam – Korea diplomatic relations, a deep friendship, this is also an opportunity for VKU to express deep gratitude to the people, the Governments of Vietnam and South Korea have invested, supported the foundation and development of the University. In particular, in Da Nang city – Central region, VKU emerged as a bright spot in the friendly relationship between the two countries and peoples with the cooperation and active investment from ODA of the Korean Government in the field of education and training.

With the determination to become a prestigious university, providing high-quality human resources for society as well as domestic and Korean businesses, VKU needs the attention and support of the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and KOICA Vietnam through the orientation and goals of VKUs projects in the coming time such as:
+ Support and assist VKU to seek projects to complete infrastructure, build new and modern lecture halls…to meet the increasing number of students, expected to 10,000 students in 2025-2026, in order to develop VKU into a leading university in Viet Nam and obtain international standards.
+ Design and build Vietnam-Korea cultural square, which is a miniature Korean image in VKU and a leading destination for Korean businesses and people when coming to Da Nang and Vietnam.
+ Opening new training majors related to Korean language such as Engineer/Bachelor Information Technology, Bachelor Tourism – Korean languages. From there, continue to improve knowledge for future human resources working in Korean enterprises.
+ Through the support of the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and KOICA Vietnam to invite leading Korean enterprises to invest, support and coordinate with VKU to build laboratories (LABS) and order the implementation of research and application projects.
+ Proposing to organize a forum on the topic of developing quality human resources with the participation of many agencies, organizations and businesses from Korea.

Returning to visit VKU after more than 10 years, since 2013, Ambassador Oh Young Ju emotionally shared the time she had the opportunity to accompany VKU. Mrs. Oh Young Ju also highly appreciated the achievements as well as the outstanding development of VKU and affirmed that VKU is one of the successful projects that KOICA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea implemented in Vietnam, and the role of VKU is very important for the development of Da Nang city and Vietnam. Currently, Korean enterprises lack a lot of human resources in Information Technology, Communication and Digital Economy. Through KOICA Vietnam, the Korean Embassy will support the establishment of a connection channel between VKU and the Korean business community. In addition to Korean Government scholarships, excellent VKU students will have more opportunities to study, as well as practice and work in Korea. To do this, the Korean Embassy will actively influence the Korean Government, Universities and Enterprises to accompany and support VKU.
At the meeting, Ambassador Oh Young Ju and members of the delegation highly evaluated the suggestions on the development cooperation plan of VKU, and expressed their support and actively promoted the activities that need to be implemented in the coming time as follows:
- Complete the project procedures to expand the Bachelor/Engineer program in Korean. The Korean side will consider the possibility of sending experts and lecturers to Vietnam to teach, etc. in order to develop VKU to become a dream university for many generations of students, creating high quality human resources to attract many interested organizations and businesses, and creating many job opportunities.
- In Hanoi, the Korean Education Office and the Korean Cultural Center are two agencies that have been implementing many useful programs and playgrounds related to Korean culture and other related fields. The Korean Embassy will promote the Center together with VKU to organize the Coding Championship for students who are passionate about information technology, as well as a number of other exchange activities, thereby developing a deep connection between the two countries and the people of Vietnam – Korea. Besides, it also creates conditions for VKU students and lecturers to access many valuable learning resources and opportunities to study and practice in Korea.
- The Korean Embassy will connect the Korea ICT Business Association in Vietnam with the University to organize forums, seminars and events to introduce the needs of recruiting personnel to work at businesses in the future, as well as branding VKU to the Korean business community to promote the cooperation between University and businesses.

At the meeting, Ambassador Oh Young Ju and the attending guests had more exchanges and sharing about friendship and relations between Vietnam and Korea and hoped that in the coming time, the Korean Embassy in Vietnam will always accompany and help the University to achieve the set goals, continue to develop the relationship between the two countries towards the future on the basis of brilliant cooperation results in recent years.
At the end of the visit, Ambassador Oh Young Ju thanked VKU for its enthusiastic and thoughtful welcome and would continue to stick with VKU on the way of development in the future.
