Closing Ceremony of VIMC 2025: Vietnam and Singapore Win First Prize, VKU Impresses with Professional Organization and International Friendship

On the afternoon of August 19, 2025, the Closing Ceremony of the 25th Vietnam International Mathematics Competition (VIMC 2025) was solemnly held at Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang.

Overview of the VIMC 2025 Closing Ceremony

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vinh – Permanent Deputy Secretary of Da Nang Party Committee; Mr. Tran Anh Tuan – Member of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee; Prof. Wen-Hsien Sun – President of the International Mathematics Committee (IMC); Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan – Director of Da Nang Department of Education and Training, Head of the Organizing Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – President of the University of Danang; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of VKU, Co-Chairman of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Wasan Sutthawart – Director of Research and Development Program, Ministry of Education, Thailand; Ms. Thunyanun Keawkird – Deputy Director, Office of Innovation, Ministry of Education, Thailand; along with representatives of local authorities, members of the IMC International Committee, team leaders, teachers, parents, and nearly 600 contestants from more than 30 countries and territories.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan – Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee –  delivers remarks

In his address at the Closing Ceremony, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan – Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee – affirmed that VIMC 2025 is a prestigious academic event of international scale, held for the first time in Vietnam, making Da Nang a gathering place for young mathematical talents from around the world. He acknowledged the close cooperation of the IMC International Committee, the support of IEG Global, and the active involvement of local departments and agencies. He also highly appreciated the pivotal role and thorough preparation of VKU – from its modern facilities, dormitories, and exam venues to all activities hosted on campus. The dedication of VKU’s leadership, faculty, and student volunteers contributed decisively to the resounding success of the competition. Thus, VIMC 2025 not only affirmed the academic standing of Da Nang and VKU but also provided an opportunity to showcase the image of a youthful, dynamic, and friendly city to international friends.

Mr. Mai Quang Huy – Member of the International Committee, representing the VIMC 2025 Board of Judges, delivers remarks

On behalf of the VIMC 2025 Board of Judges, Mr. Mai Quang Huy – Member of the International Committee – shared that this year’s exam papers covered a wide range of mathematical fields and were certainly more challenging than ever. What impressed the Jury members, however, was not only the correct solutions but also the diversity of problem-solving approaches. Many problems had multiple valid methods, and it was inspiring to see contestants discover creative approaches that sometimes even surprised the Board of Judges. With a scientifically designed exam system, fair and objective grading, and the dedicated support of VKU’s faculty and student volunteers, the competition was conducted in a transparent, serious, yet friendly manner.

VIMC 2025 was organized according to the international standards of the International Mathematics Competition (IMC), with two divisions: Key Stage II (Grades 6-7) and Key Stage III (Grades 8-9). Each student participated in two compulsory rounds: the Individual Contest and the Team Contest. The exam papers were selected from proposals submitted by the academic committees of participating countries. The official test papers were coordinated, compiled, and finalized by the International Organizing Committee under the Chiu Chang Foundation.

Vietnam and Singapore Teams Win First Prize

The final results of VIMC 2025 were announced in an atmosphere of great excitement and anticipation at the Closing Ceremony. The First Prize was awarded to both the Vietnam and Singapore teams. The Vietnam team achieved an impressive record with 14 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals (including both individual and team contests).

More than just medals, VIMC 2025 created values that went far beyond a competition. Throughout the event, students not only challenged themselves with difficult math problems but also took part in diverse activities such as the Puzzle Challenge, a vibrant cultural exchange night, and city tours exploring Da Nang. These all made VIMC 2025 not only an academic competition but also a cultural journey, leaving lasting memories for international friends from around the world.

The Closing Ceremony of VIMC 2025 concluded in an atmosphere of joy, pride, and deep emotion. In a solemn moment, the IMC flag was officially handed over to Mongolia, the next host country, marking the continuation of this prestigious mathematics competition. For Da Nang, Vietnam, and especially VKU, VIMC 2025 was not only a success in terms of organization but also a testament to its credibility, international integration capacity, and affirmed position on the global education map. This milestone also lays an important foundation for VKU to continue asserting its pioneering role in connecting with and accompanying global academic events, contributing to the sustainable development of knowledge and human friendship.
