VKU and Kongju National University (Korea) discuss cooperation in training and developing human resources for Game technology

On the afternoon of June 30, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang had a meeting and worked with a delegation from Kongju National University (Korea), to discuss potential cooperation in the field of training and developing human resources for Game technology, which is thriving in the current digital era.

Overview of the meeting

Attending the meeting, on the side of Kongju National University were Prof. Byeongpyo Kyung – Head of the Department of Game Design and Director of the International Creative Design Academy; Prof. Dongyeol Lee – Head of the Department of Information Technology, Prof. Jongho Lee – Head of the 3D Game Design Major, and Mr. Jaehong Lee – Chairman of the Korean Game Rating Association. On the side of VKU, the meeting was attended by Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the University, along with leaders of various departments, faculties, and centers within the university.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the University expressed his pleasure to welcome representatives of Kongju National University, Korea to visit and collaborate with VKU. He emphasized that VKU is an application-oriented public university, a pioneer in digital technology training in the Central – Central Highlands region. From 2020 to the present, VKU has admitted nearly 7,000 students, with a target of reaching 8,000 to 9,000 students by 2025. The university currently has a team of nearly 300 staff and lecturers, including nearly 70 PhDs and associate professors. In addition to offering bilingual training in English-Vietnamese, Japanese-Vietnamese, Korean-Vietnamese and enhancing the writing of graduation theses in English, VKU also collaborates with more than 200 major technology enterprises to align academic training with real-world practice, thereby expanding job opportunities for its students. In particular, in 2025, VKU will be the first university in the Central – Central Highlands region to launch the Game Technology major with 60 quotas. This will run in parallel with the Communication Technology major, which includes specializations in Digital Art Design and Multimedia Design.

Prof. Byeongpyo Kyung, representing Kongju National University, expressed his deep gratitude for VKU’s warm and thoughtful welcome. He shared that Kongju is one of the leading national universities in Korea with a student population of nearly 21,500 and three campuses located in Gongju, Cheonan, and Yesan. In particular, the Department of Game Design under the School of Arts stands out as a key highlight, offering both undergraduate and master’s programs in graphic design, 3D animation, game engine programming, interactive storytelling and digital media art. Kongju students actively participate in real-world projects and annual exhibitions such as “READY ON”, which are closely connected with the creative and entertainment industry.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed several specific areas of cooperation, including the development of building a 3+1 joint training program that awards degrees from both Vietnam and Korea; offering master’s degree programs for VKU students and lecturers; organizing faculty and student exchange programs; co-hosting scientific seminars, Game development competitions for high school and university students and exhibitions showcasing contemporary Game technology.

The visit and working session between VKU and Kongju National University not only opened up promising prospects for extensive cooperation in training and research, but also reaffirmed VKU’s pioneering role in the field of Game technology in the Central – Central Highlands and the whole country. Partnerships with leading universities such as Kongju allow VKU to continue refining its innovative, practical and internationally integrated training ecosystem. These efforts play a vital role in preparing a high-quality workforce for the game industry – a dynamic and promising field expected to serve as a significant engine of growth in the digital economy of the 4.0 era.
