Promoting training and research cooperation between Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology and Dong Thap University

On the morning of April 8, 2025, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, had a working session with the leadership delegation from Dong Thap University (DThU) to exchange experiences in opening new academic programs, developing proposals for new programs, and setting graduate output standards for the year 2025. This discussion especially focused on the transfer of training programs related to Applied Artificial Intelligence.

Overview of the working session

Representatives from DThU included Dr. Nguyen Quoc Vu – Vice Rector, while VKU was represented by Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector, alongside leaders from relevant departments and faculties from both institutions.

In his speech, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho, Vice Rector of VKU, thanked the DThU delegation for visiting and working with VKU. He introduced the development process and major achievements of VKU since its establishment in 2020, affirming its position as a leading public university in information technology, communications, and digital economy training and research in the Central – Central Highlands and nationwide. VKU takes pride in various accomplishments, including a stable enrollment scale with 1,500 yearly slots, maintaining high admission standards (an average score of 24 points for 16 majors/specializations), and pioneering in the recruitment and training of the Semiconductor Circuit Design Engineering major with an entry score of 27 in 2024. With such high-quality students, the university has created favorable conditions for various activities, including the growing student movement in learning and scientific research, with numerous achievements in national and international competitions. In addition, VKU has implemented international training programs (UK-Vietnam, Japan-Vietnam, Korea-Vietnam) and projects that support students in enhancing their international standing through exchange programs, student exchanges, and internships in countries such as Thailand, Japan, South Korea, etc.

On behalf of DThU, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Vu expressed his deep gratitude for the warm welcome from VKU. The main purpose of this visit and working session was to learn from VKU’s experience in developing training programs, especially those in rapidly growing fields. DThU, a public university under the Ministry of Education and Training, evolved from Dong Thap Pedagogical College (established in 2003 and renamed Dong Thap University in 2008). Alongside traditional pedagogy programs, DThU is expanding into new fields, particularly information technology, and aims to learn from VKU’s experience in these areas.

During the meeting, VKU and DThU reached several important agreements for future cooperation. VKU committed to supporting DThU in developing new training programs, especially in the fields of Information Technology and Semiconductor Circuits, to meet the high demand for skilled labor in the region. Additionally, both universities agreed to implement activities for faculty and student exchanges, as well as research collaborations during the 2025-2026 academic year. An important highlight of this collaboration is the joint research on shared topics between VKU, with its expertise in Artificial Intelligence, and DThU, with its strong foundation in Mathematics, which is expected to lead to breakthrough results. Moreover, both institutions also expressed interest in organizing the CITA event in Dong Thap in the near future, offering students and faculty from both universities a chance to interact and learn from each other.

The working session concluded, opening up many potential collaboration opportunities in training and research, particularly in high-tech fields. This visit reflects the commitment and efforts of both universities to enhance the quality of education and meet the developmental needs of society.
