Workshop on Global Education Network – VKU Connects Knowledge, Reaches International Level

As part of the series of events commemorating the 5th Anniversary of VKU’s Establishment (January 3, 2020 – January 3, 2025): A 22-Year Journey of Formation and Development”, on the afternoon of January 2, 2025, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), University of Danang, hosted the Workshop on Expanding the Global Education Network: Strengthening Partnerships for Transnational Programs. The workshop, supported by the British Council, was conducted under the UK-TNE Development Project to foster collaboration among international universities and partners in transnational education systems. It also aimed to enhance understanding of the UK education system and expand accessibility for international students.

Overview of the workshop

The workshop was attended by several distinguished guests. Representing VKU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap (Rector), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh (Chairman of the University Council), and Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho (Vice Rector). International participants included Prof. Dr. Somrerk Chandra-ambhorn (Vice President, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand), Ms. Tran Thi Hong Gam (Deputy Director of Education Programs, British Council, attending online), and Prof. Thomas Zhe Zhang (Global Assistant Director, University of Northampton). Domestic attendees included Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Tu (Director, Information Technology Institute, Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thu Lam (Secretary General, FISU Vietnam), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh (Vice Rector, Phenikaa University), Dr. Ly Thien Trang (Vice Rector, HUTECH University), Dr. Tran The Vu (Deputy Director, VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education, the University of Danang), representatives from the University of Economics and Finance (UEF), and other partner organizations. Leaders, faculty members, and students from VKU attended in large numbers.

Opening remarks by Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho – Vice Rector

In his opening speech, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Tho extended heartfelt gratitude to all participants. He emphasized that VKU has actively pursued international collaboration in education and research in recent years, facilitating rapid integration with advanced global education systems. This workshop, as part of the UK-TNE Development Project supported by the British Council, represents a milestone in VKU’s efforts to strengthen transnational education networks and marks the university’s 5th anniversary celebrations.

The workshop featured an overview of the UK-TNE Development Project, strategies for enhancing international education partnerships through student exchange networks, and lessons learned from implementing TNE programs in Vietnam. Speakers from the British Council, the University of Northampton, and VN-UK, UD shared their insights on the challenges, opportunities, and future prospects of TNE.

Representatives from domestic and international universities shared their insights during the discussion session 

Besides, during the discussion session, representatives from domestic and international universities such as the University of Hertfordshire (UK), UEF, Phenikaa, HUTECH, DUE, and VNUK discussed the impact of modern technologies like online learning and digital platforms on global education. They explored challenges, opportunities, and solutions for maintaining quality and ensuring sustainability in TNE programs, while fostering international educational collaboration.

The Workshop on Global Education Network concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impression and opening new avenues for collaboration in transnational education. With a spirit of connection and knowledge-sharing, the event provided a platform for universities and educational organizations to interact and learn from one another. It also marked an important step toward fostering strategic partnerships. Insights from experts painted a comprehensive picture of TNE’s development potential, including applying modern technology and successful collaborative models. As the host institution, VKU reaffirmed its role in bridging international resources to build a modern, sustainable education system aligned with global trends. This workshop not only celebrated VKU’s proud 5-year journey but also paved the way for promising new chapters in global education collaboration and development.
