VKU Signs International Cooperation MoU with Taiwan University Alliance to Implement the INTENSE Program
On November 26, 2024, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), along with other member universities of the University of Danang, signed an International Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding with the Taiwan University Alliance to implement the International Industrial Talent Education Special Program (INTENSE), initiated by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education.
Overview of the Ceremony
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Tran The Son, Vice Rector of VKU, representatives from the University of Technology and Education and the University of Science and Technology under the University of Danang, and leaders from the Taiwan University Alliance, including Minghsin University of Science and Technology, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, and Kun Shan University.
As a top public university, VKU has pioneered initiatives in semiconductor chip design education. In 2024, VKU successfully launched its Semiconductor Chip Design Engineering program with a target of training 600 to 1,000 engineers by 2028. The curriculum has been updated to include semiconductor-oriented pathways for related majors, enabling students from 2021 to 2023 cohorts to transition into this field and meet the urgent workforce demand.
VKU has also introduced a master’s training program and established research groups focusing on semiconductor chip design. Training plans for students in packaging and testing in this field are underway, alongside upskilling courses for students and capacity-building for faculty. The university has completed and put into operation the construction of the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Center (VKU-SSTH) and laboratories for advanced technologies in collaboration with Nam Long Group.
VKU has forged strategic partnerships with domestic and international organizations, including the Vietnam National University Institute of Information Technology (Hanoi), the Institute of Systems Integration at Le Quy Don Technical University, FPT Software Corporation in Central Vietnam, Kyunghee University (South Korea), and the Korea Fabless Industry Association (KFIA), among other partners.
Especially in 2024, VKU allocated 60 enrollment slots for the Semiconductor Chip Design Engineering program, receiving over 1,500 applications. This strong interest resulted in 71 admitted students achieving entrance scores of 27 points or higher through academic transcript and national high school examination methods, placing the program among the top-tier selections in Vietnam.
VKU and Taiwan University Alliance Leaders Sign Cooperation Agreement
Participating in the cooperation signing with the Taiwan University Alliance to implement the INTENSE program of Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, VKU anticipates this collaboration will provide its students opportunities to learn and access cutting-edge knowledge and technologies from Taiwan and around the globe.
Through the INTENSE program, Vietnamese students can receive scholarships for two years, amounting to 100,000 New Taiwan dollars per year (approximately 80 million VND annually). Additionally, they are eligible for monthly financial support of 10,000 Taiwanese dollars (approximately 8 million VND) from partnering enterprises. Graduates will also be given priority for long-term employment opportunities in Taiwan.
The signing ceremony of the International Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between VKU and the Taiwan University Alliance underscores VKU’s pioneering role in global integration and represents a pivotal milestone in its strategy to train high-quality human resources. The INTENSE program offers VKU students exceptional opportunities for education, research, and financial support while paving the way for stable career prospects in Taiwan. This marks the beginning of a comprehensive and sustainable partnership between Vietnam and Taiwan, promising groundbreaking achievements in the future.
