VKU met and discussed cooperation with The Korea SMEs & Startups Agency (KOSME)
On the morning of November 25, 2024, Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (VKU), University of Danang had a meeting and worked with the Korea SMEs & Startups Agency (KOSME) to learn about and discuss cooperation in training and recruiting IT students for the Korean market, based on the introduction from the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (KOICA Vietnam).
Overview of the meeting
Attending the meeting, on the KOSME side, there were Mr. Pang Shi Won – Senior Manager, Mr. Kim Su Yeon – Director of KOSME Office in Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Eom Ik Seung – Manager; on the KOICA Vietnam side, there were Ms. Kim Na Rae – Deputy Director and Ms. Ryu Nuri – ODA Project Coordinator; on the PMC side, there was Dr. Lee Jong Won; on the VKU side, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector, and Leaders of Departments, Faculties, and Centers of the University.

At the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector of the University welcomed the delegation of KOSME who visited the University for the first time to learn about and discuss cooperation opportunities. VKU is a public university under the University of Danang, established in 2020 on the basis of merging constituent units with a history of more than 20 years. Up to now, VKU has nearly 7,000 students studying in the fields of information technology, communications and digital economy; VKU’s average admission score was 24 points for 16 training majors/specializations, especially in 2024, VKU enrolled IC Design Engineers with a nationally top-ranked entry score of 27 points. With the mission of a leading public university to serve an important role of providing high-quality human resources for the fields of information technology, communications and digital economy, VKU has pioneered and actively trained and developed high-quality human resources in strategic professions for the development of Da Nang City, the country and the world trend. VKU has been very successful in training IC Design, Artificial Intelligence, Logistics and, in 2024, Digital Financial Technology (Fintech). VKU’s training and human resource development focus on digital technology for the financial industry (TechFin-Technology Finance), enhancing English and Korean languages, the ability to adapt to changes, and lifelong self-learning capacity (liberation) for learners.
In addition, VKU is also the only university in Vietnam that has received great investment and support from the Korean Government. Through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), VKU receives great support in terms of facilities, infrastructure and equipment that are invested synchronously, advanced training programs from Korea, a team of high-quality lecturers who are well-trained from advanced countries in the world, and the 1,500m2 Innovation Center being deployed on the 2nd Floor of the Student Center to attract businesses to invest and participate in the startup ecosystem of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Semiconductor Microchips and Financial Technology with the aim of helping students access internships and practice directly at the university.
On the other hand, in recent years, VKU has actively maintained and promoted the spirit and entrepreneurial thinking among students in various forms, notably the Informatics Olympiad in the Central and Central Highlands and other academic playgrounds to nurture creative ideas through competitions such as Robocar Creation, Best Web Design, English Talents and Information Security. In 2024, VKU organized the Artificial Intelligence and Application Competition – AI Living Lab and Challenge: Danang AI for Life for the first time with the participation of more than 700 students from 100 teams, focusing on creative ideas of AI application in production, business, transportation, finance, healthcare, education, tourism, agriculture and other fields to serve the social community.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Pang Shi Won – Senior Manager of KOSME sincerely thanked VKU for the thoughtful and respectful reception given to the delegation. He said: The Korea SMEs & Startups Agency (KOSME) is a government-funded non-profit organization established to implement government policies and programs for the healthy development and growth of Korean small and medium enterprises. In recent years, KOSME in Vietnam has implemented many training cooperations with universities and organized recruitment fairs in Vietnam and Korea to support the human resource needs of Korean small and medium enterprises.
On the other hand, through financial programs, KOSME has provided finance to small and medium enterprises to expand their operations, develop new products and transform business structures. With consulting programs including consulting, training, marketing and global cooperation programs, KOSME supports small and medium enterprises to enhance their global competitiveness.
Through the discussion, VKU proposed to cooperate with KOSME, focusing on the following main contents: (1) Coordinate, support and train to enhance Korean language proficiency for VKU students right from the beginning of their studies; (2) Coordinate to organize academic, startup and innovation playgrounds to find new ideas; (3) Increase KOSME’s presence in recruitment and internship coordination activities at VKU in particular and Da Nang market in general.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to maintain close contact and continue to exchange to realize cooperation opportunities in the coming time. This is a promising first step for strategic cooperation projects, bringing practical benefits in improving training quality and expanding career opportunities for VKU students. At the same time, it contributes to affirming VKU as an important bridge in promoting the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Korea, especially in the field of information technology and innovation.
