Assoc.Pro.Dr. Huynh Cong Phap – Rector’s Speech of Congratulations
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of the University, extended warm greetings and deep gratitude to all generations of leaders, faculty, and staff. He also conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (20/11) – a day for society to express appreciation and honor teachers, as well as an opportunity for the University’s staff and students to reflect on the noble tradition of respecting teachers and the dedication of previous and recent leaders and educators.
VKU, established in 2020 from the merger of constituent units, is nearing its 5th anniversary. Despite facing numerous challenges due to external factors, the University’s leadership team, together with the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students, has steadily achieved remarkable results, as evidenced by the following highlights:
Firstly, building a strong leadership and management system with full ethics, intelligence, and determination, who are dedicated and responsible for their work, as well as fostering internal unity and solidarity, with a shared passion for the profession and commitment to the school among all staff members.
Secondly, the team of staff and lecturers, especially those with the titles of Associate Professors (Assoc.Prof.) and Doctors (PhD), has grown rapidly in recent years. Specifically, the university currently has nearly 70 PhDs and Associate Professors, accounting for 41%. This is a valuable resource for the aspiration to become a leading university in Vietnam and to achieve international rankings for VKU.
Thirdly, the quality and fields of education have been firmly established. VKU continues to be a preferred choice by society, parents, and students, as evidenced by its entrance scores ranking among the top universities with the highest scores in the Central – Central Highlands. The admission scores have consistently increased over the years for all 16 majors and programs. The average admission score for 2024 (~24 points) is 6.0 points higher than the first year of enrollment. The university has successfully accredited 03 training programs according to the quality standards set by the Ministry of Education and Training and is continuing to implement the accreditation of the training facility (expected in 2025). Furthermore, VKU has adopted a new teaching method oriented toward liberal arts and internationalization, implementing various activities and competitions (such as Informatics Olympiad in the Central and Central Highlands of Vietnam, Robocar Competition, English Talent Competition, Best Web Design, Entrepreneurship Ideas, Information Security, AI for Life, ….). The university has also launched academic exchange and cultural programs with nearly 70 students exchanging with King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand, and Hanwha Life Group, CFK – South Korea. The university has initiated many real-world projects, internships, business collaborations, and has enhanced bilingual teaching in English-Vietnamese, Japanese-Vietnamese, and Korean-Vietnamese. Notably, 100% of students’ graduation theses are written/presented in English.
In 2023, VKU took the lead in announcing the recruitment and training of Semiconductor IC Design Engineers. By the end of the 2024 recruitment, the entrance score for the Semiconductor IC Design Engineering program was 27 points, ranking second nationwide. The university has invested in building the Semiconductor and Smart Technology Hub (VKU-SSTH) and collaborated with the Information Technology Institute (ITI), Hanoi National University, DSAC Center (Da Nang), and Synopsys to train the first 25 source lecturers in Semiconductor Microelectronics Design for Da Nang City. Additionally, an Upskills training course was organized for 15 third- and fourth-year students from related fields to transition into Semiconductor Microelectronics Design. VKU has also launched a Master’s program in Information Technology following international standards, along with a very special support policy for learners.
Fourthly, the external relations, international cooperation, and business partnerships have elevated VKU to a new level. Notable achievements include the groundbreaking of a $7.7 million ODA project funded by the South Korean government for the 2022-2027 period, aimed at developing VKU into a leading university in Vietnam and achieving international rankings. VKU has also led and continuously organized CITA scientific conference 13 times, which has become a major international event in Central Vietnam initiated by the university. VKU spearheaded the establishment of the ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research (ACIR), the 1st ACIR+ Workshop of research and innovation for students (AWRIS 2024), and FISU Central – Central Highlands (FISU), and became a member of ASEAN IVO and several other major organizations and associations. The university has also welcomed and signed cooperation agreements with numerous high-level delegations from domestic and international organizations and businesses, including the Ambassador of South Korea, the Consul General of South Korea and Japan, leaders of ministries, local governments, universities, and international companies, creating research and learning opportunities for faculty and students. Additionally, VKU has partnered with Nam Long Group to establish a laboratory and new technology research center, developed the VKU Fintech Hub sponsored by Hanwha Life Group and CFK, South Korea, and set up a Korean language classroom sponsored by Visang Vietnam.
Fifth, VKU has successfully secured funding and implemented infrastructure and campus development projects. As a result, the university has undergone a remarkable transformation, with its campus becoming greener, cleaner, more beautiful, and more and more modern and convenient.
Sixth, the material and spiritual life, as well as employment benefits for the staff have significantly improved. The average income of staff now reaches 2.7 times the basic salary, double that of 2020 when the university was newly established. This includes salary increases, management fees, benefits, and teaching allowances, which are now approaching the level of top universities in Da Nang and the Central – Central Highlands. Additionally, many major programs such as team building, sports events, and the “Aspiration to Reach Far” cultural activities have contributed to enhancing the spiritual life, creating a sense of pride, joy, and happiness among the staff and students.
The university’s successes have created a new momentum and a fresh outlook on its path to becoming a leading educational institution in Vietnam and expanding its international reach. However, the university also faces several challenges, namely the societal demand for a highly skilled workforce to meet the needs of global integration and the global market. In particular, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, robotics, and technologies like ChatGPT, is gradually replacing traditional education with technology. Therefore, every teacher, staff member, and student at the university must be proactive, dynamic, and foster a spirit of liberation, creativity, and innovation, with a strong resolve to overcome limitations, especially in foreign languages, and the application of new technologies to help the university adapt and grow to new level.
To overcome these challenges and achieve its goals and vision of becoming a top university in Vietnam with international standards, VKU must continue to invest more and focus efforts into ensuring and improving the quality of education. The university aims to achieve accreditation by 2025 and will carry out both domestic and international accreditation for all of its academic programs. VKU will continue pursuing large-scale projects to complete its infrastructure and facilities, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for training, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These include a Research and Innovation Space, Maker Space, Smart Lab, Startup Incubator, Co-working Space, International Conference Center, VKU Hotel, Vietnam-Korea Cultural Square, sports facilities for dormitory students, and modern lecture halls. Additionally, the university will focus on developing a team of highly qualified lecturers and enhancing the quality of newly introduced programs such as Semiconductor Microelectronics, Artificial Intelligence, Communication Technology, and Fintech. It will also continue recruiting for international Master’s degree programs.
The university’s leader is presenting flowers in gratitude to the former leaders of the university from various periods
On the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, November 20, the university extends its heartfelt gratitude to the agencies, organizations, businesses, and partners (including the Department of Information and Communications, Da Nang City Police, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang District Police, DSAC Center, People’s Committee of Hoa Quy Ward, VNPT, BIDV, Agribank, VietinBank, NIX Education, ENOSTA, Golden Asia Media, Rikai Technology, and others) for their visits, flowers, and warm wishes to the university. With great joy and excitement during the Vietnamese Teachers’ Day celebrations, VKU remains deeply confident and steadfast in its goals, with a determined commitment to building the university into a top educational institution in Vietnam and achieving international rankings, in preparation for the university’s 5th anniversary and its 22-year journey of formation and development.
