VKU Welcomes and Discusses Collaboration with Japanese Professors and Experts

As part of the Sensor Networks and Mobile Intelligence Vietnam Workshop – SeMI 2024, on the afternoon of October 24, 2024, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), the University of Danang, held a meeting to discuss collaboration with Japanese professors and experts.

Overview of the Meeting

In attendance from the Japanese delegation were Prof. Kazuya Monden, Chair of the SeMI Technical Subcommittee (Hitachi, Ltd., Japan), Prof. Susumu Ishihara (Shizuoka University), Prof. Tomoaki Otsuki (Keio University), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kien Nguyen (Chiba University), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Takeshi Hirai (Osaka University). Representing VKU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector, along with leaders from the university’s departments and centers.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of VKU, warmly welcomed the Japanese professors and experts attending the SeMI Vietnam Workshop 2024. He expressed his gratitude to IEICE SeMI 2024 for trusting VKU as the host for this event, which focuses on a topic of great interest to both national and international scientists and researchers.

VKU, established in 2020, annually admits 1,500 students with an average entry score of 24 across 16 majors and minors in information technology, communications, and digital economy. VKU has grown to nearly 7,000 students, with a target of 8,000–9,000 students by 2025. The faculty consists of over 250 people, about 70 of whom hold Ph.D. or Associate Professor titles, representing about 41%. In addition, VKU has focused on connecting and building a network of over 200 strategic partners including domestic and international organizations and enterprises participating in the training process, job recruitment and sponsorship, implementing training cooperation programs in bilingual English, Japanese, Korean, etc., and implementing many activities, playgrounds, international academic-cultural exchange programs, implementing practical projects, internships, business cooperation, enhancing foreign language teaching, especially 100% of students’ graduation theses are written/presented in English.

VKU, with the mission of a leading public university and a key supplier of high-tech human resources for the country and Da Nang city, has announced a Master’s training program in Information Technology, which is built and implemented according to international standards along with a very special support policy for learners. Accordingly, VKU plans to enroll 40 Master’s training targets in Information Technology (code: 8480201), within 2 years (including 4 semesters, 60 credits). The training program is designed according to the orientation of in-depth research and especially focuses on foreign languages, international orientation and integration. Students participating in the Master’s training program must meet all foreign language requirements to be able to study 100% of the modules in English. Students will study, research, and work with lecturers and professors not only domestically but also internationally in in-depth research fields, especially important fields such as semiconductor microchips, artificial intelligence, etc. To graduate, students, with the guidance and instruction of lecturers, will have to have scientific papers published in prestigious international scientific conferences and journals. In addition, VKU has been the host and organizer of the CITA Scientific Conference since 2012 with an increasing scale in terms of quantity and quality of scientific papers, gathering many prestigious scientists and researchers in the world such as Poland, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, … with professional sponsorship and support from Springer Publishing, IEEE SMC and the ASEAN Consortium for Innovation and Research – ACIR. CITA 2025 is expected to be held in Cambodia, in 2026 in Vietnam and 2027 in Thailand.

Japanese Professors and Experts Participate in the Meeting

Through discussions with Japanese professors and experts, VKU expressed a desire to collaborate with universities in Japan in several areas. These include coordinating the implementation of a Master’s program in Information Technology through faculty and expert exchanges, practical internships in Japan, co-organizing scientific workshops, academic exchanges, and summer camps between VKU students and Japanese students in Da Nang. Additionally, VKU extended invitations to Japanese professors and experts to join future CITA Conferences. These discussions on collaboration in training, scientific research, and academic exchanges with Japanese partners are expected to contribute significantly to enhancing VKU’s training quality and reputation in the future.
